What graphics card would you recommend in a laptop of similar price?

I'm half thinking about a new gaming PC, but could be tempted with a laptop. I'm not really familiar with graphics cards in laptops, so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

The Acer 6920g/6930g Laptops have Blu Ray and a 9500gt or ATI HD3670 Graphics cards. I think.

Try this site:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Graphic-Cards.130.0.html

It's an excellent site with a league table to graphics cards and descriptions of each card and how good they are for gaming.

Agree with surf-dude that this isn't really a gamers card. The site shows that it is mid 3rd division out of 6. Personally I'd not accept anything lower than mid division 2...Half life 2 would be fine with division 2 cards me thinks. That said I'm not a hardcore gamer (they'd want 1st division only for Crysis etc). Depends on how much you want to spend I suppose.

1080i on a 16" screen? You're going to need a magnifying glass to read any text!

Each to their own I suppose, but unless you're desperate to watch BluRay on a small screen (a contradiction in terms), the R560 with the 9600GS can be had for a similar price.

been on the look out for a BluRay laptop, with 1080(p) screen (all the Acer ones don't seems to have 1080), really wanted a Dell XPS, but too expensive for the spec, this Samsung seems to have good spec, anybody have experience with Samsung for their laptops? any good?

I have done a tour here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J44wMJBsyV8

Sold it shortly after though, speakers and build quality not that good, Battery life painful at 1:20, 9200m struggles even to mimimze with aero out of the box, playing games was painful at the res its got. XP on it was a little better (Samsung site have the downloads for it)

bought a macbook pro instead.

Posted here three weeks ago slightly more expensive but was hot

I have the same graphics card in my laptop (Samsung Q210 (much smaller, no blu-ray but better CPU)) and while its ok for games like battlefield 2 and half-life 2 I wouldn't bother running anything brand new on it at full resolution.
#13
That 9200 will drive the 1080p display pitifully for games graphics. And a 16" screen as someone said everything will be super tiny!

You are quoting a different model:thumbsup:

Fair enough, but I can't see any difference apart from the Ram. The Argos one has 2Mb , whilst the Ebuyer one has 3Mb.

Go for the Ebuyer one if you want to pay £50 for an extra 1 Mb of Ram.

I think resolution is the biggest diffrence, the one in argos has 1280 x 800 pixels.
By the way its 2GB and 3GB RAM diffrence, LOL
Any ways I am not interested in this laptop.
#16
serious question.
can you really tell the difference on a 16" screen?

You could have given this deal a description ;-)

Same as Freddy - is a greater resolution actually of any real advantage?

depends what you're doing - if it's just watching movies then no, probably not.

My Dell is 1680x1050, used for normal email & office apps - but when I need to use my wife's Vaio (1280x800) I find the resolution very limiting & frustrating, even just browsing the web or using Excel.

The samsung website says that if you find a cheaper deal on the internet compared to them, they will give you a 10% off!!!

So if this latop is same as http://www.saveonsamsung.com/Samsung_R610_452937.html

then you might be able to convince samsung for a 10% off and but it directly from samsung for about

£629.29 - 10% = £566.31 FINAL!!!

Please check and update.
#21
Now that sounds like a very good deal! :) £560 eh..

So I've heard the 9200gs being pitiful when paired to an Atom, it can't do much with regard to HD.

Can this with the C2D really drive 1080p via HDMI to a TV?

It says on their site "we'll beat the price difference by 10%!", so that's 10% of £20-ish difference, so only £2 less. Plus they charge min £9.99 for delivery or free super saver delivery is 10-14 days.

Not sure who these guys are, so would 2 prefer to buy from eBuyer for sake of a couple of quid.

Just so that people know, that website is NOTHING to do with Samsung. It's just another retailer, and a small one at that.
