i would steer away from the hannsg if you play games at less than 1680*1050.

the hannsg has a rather poor scaler, which is as far as i can tell based on a "nearest neighbour" algorithm, which makes it pretty poor for text clarity.

if you are buying the hannsg for windows work (word, email, www) where it will always be at 1680*1050 its fine.

for games or using on consoles, i would pay the extra and go for the samsung.

I got one a couple of weeks ago, and while generally excellent does have an annoying level of backlight bleed, however if you look at most customer reviews they seem to be happy so I was probably just a bit unlucky
#6
Filo25 got a bad panel from samsung! if you find a samsung TFT on offer, chances are it'll have a terrible panel in it and u'll get lots of backlight bleed, bad colour recreation etc. go for it if you don't care what the picture looks like - or if you only care what it looks like when it's switched off ;)

Previous Samsung models had very good reviews, so I'd be surprised is this one wasn't good too. They also do some "Pebble" monitors with TV tuner built in as well... :) I checked the other day but couldn't find any in stock though.

that's because sammy supply good panels in the sets the reviewers get.
#9
Further proof that if you give it a name (see: chocolate, razr, etc.), consumers will lap it up.

To be fair to them, the Pebble is allegedly free of the panel lottery problem that some of their other models had where you didn't know who was actually making them, I'm not sure thats ever been formally confirmed though and lets be honest its not like Samsung's credibility is too high at the moment after the stunt they pulled with the SM226

any good for a spare TV/Monitor for an XBOX 360? :)
#12
I've been looking a this one for a while. Was at my local shop for £250 and looks superb. Will go well with my black shuttle pc and if the image quality is not up to scratch (the demo model at my local looks fantastic) it will go back!

Had hoped going through paypal checkout would soak up my current £60 balance but didn't.

Thanks for finding a good price.

Be prepared to get frustrated with the fact that the closest res the xbox can do is 1360x768.
Personally waiting for the Lenovo L220x, ugly as anything but it's a 22" which can do 1920x1200, and therefor will support the 1920x1080 res from the xbox. Almost double the pixels in the same space.

Is it full HD ???

What does it mean by
"USB powered hub option: X"

Has it got a USB Hub Built into it?

If by "full HD" you mean 1080P then no, but read the posts above. 1920x1080 is "full HD"

Nope, no powered USB hub. 'X' mean it doesn't have that option.

This is an excellent monitor. The only problem people have really had with it, is that the stand isn't as solid as other stands (i.e. it wobbles a little if you bang the desk) and this monitor can not be mounted onto the wall or onto third party monitor stands (i.e. it has no VESA bracket).

it was 'proved' by me because i got a great reviewed LCD monitor with a simply awful looking panel in it. fortunately i got it from a PC world deal posted here on hotukdeals. i now would not trust samsung, and considering you said that you had it and it didn't look great, but was getting great reviews... :whistling:

i'm also looking for something like this as a spare 360 tv... i don't know if you've tried yourself, but you should be aware that the xbox natively outputs at 720p (not 1080) and that the built in scaler looks AWFUL.

once you get it all set up, you'll probably find (as i did) that the 720 mode looks MUCH better than all of the other resolutions off the 360 - and the hardware scaling in the monitor will do a much better job of it than the software in the 360 (providing you get a decent brand monitor that has a good scaler).

i'm still annoyed about the fact that monitors and TVs are made in -slightly- different aspect ratios, so using a monitor as a TV will never be perfect.

i wonder why there's no '360 certified' program. where mfrs can get a little badge to display (likes works with windows vista) if they meet certain criteria...

Wall-Mount is not included but it is Wall Mountable (if you check the ebuyer website you will see the "Wall Mountable" logo).

They have that wrong. If you check the specs listed below, they have an 'X' next to "Wall mount".

This is confirmed by Samsung's own specs for this model here:

Has anyone linked this monitor to their xbox360? If so can you let me know the picture quality and whether it fills the screen?
#24
Is there a TV tuner in this model or could it be plugged into a sky box???

Reading through the blurb on eBuyer it mentions an imbedded tv tuner near the bottom of the page.

Indeed, thats what made me think I'd just been unlucky.

If it wasn't for the light bleed problem I'd be extremely happy with mine, as it really is excellent apart from that and I haven't seen much evidence of others having the same problem on there so I'm guessing (hoping) mine was just an isolated problem

overclockers sold THE SAME LCD that i had trouble with, and people there seemed happy with it. it was £50 more expensive, and i assume that they had the better panels in. but maybe i'm seeing a witch where there isn't one, and possibly, as you say, yours was an isolated case. based on prior work, though... :-(

Which model did you have issues with, the infamous 226?

Maximum Resolution: 1680x1050

1280x720 is the minumum for hd display but you really want 1080i or p being the ideal for the horizontal resolution (second figure)...

I was past the 7 day cut off by the time I got back and set the thing up plus the missus had thrown the packaging out!

Guys do you know the difference between a TV and Monitor?
You all think this is a TV.
#35
Personally i think for a similar price you would be better of going for this LG, http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61289&highlight=M228WA Which is a tv as well! And has very similar specs, although its £220 now

I dont really play games but i do photography. I will do a lot of photoshop editing and stuff would you say that Hanns G is good enough for that or should pay the extra for the samsung? Thanks.
#39
If you do pro photography, I would spend alot more money on a Pro monitor, but if it's small photography work this Samsung will suffice.

Anyone got any pics of theirs?? :)

Received my Hanns-G today, PC comes Monday should I get this one instead and send Hanns-G back :whistling:
