I've been looking at the ES60 for my daughter for Xmas.
Is there much difference between this and the ES60 from Argos?

it doesn't look like it: "Samsung Lens" printed on the front of the lens itself.

RRP looks as ridiculous as ever, but the deal still looks very hot at least on paper.

Only problem I hear about samsung, since ive been researching is newer (Chinese built) models are actually lacking seriously in quality so I've been put off.. which is a shame because spec for spec they are easily the cheapest of the decent brands.

between this and the s930 for a friend who likes to make nice and easy pictures what would you recommend?

I can't honestly recommend these type of Samsung cameras compared to Canon.

I bought my son one last year and it was quite poor, compared to a Canon that my OH bought. The Canon picture quality was superior in every way. The Samsung camera itself was ok, but if you're looking for quality get a Canon.

I'd prefer the Sony. Their UI has always been quite nice and simple.

Plus i looked at this Samsung in Sainsbury's today and it felt like poor build quality and the picture it took wasn't great.

May be true but you won't get a Canon with comparable spec for anything like this price. 5x optical zoom and proper rechargeable battery make this a £100+ camera.

I'd be a bit hesitant about Samsung because the menu system on an older one I had was a nightmare, but at this price I'd be very tempted if i needed another camera (which I definately don't, but since when did 'need' matter to an addict?).

Personally, it's a great deal if it's any good BUT there are some real quality issues with Samsung cameras. My daughter's failed after about 14 months, lens stuck, camera inoperable. Also allthough the spec was better than my cheaper Pansonic Lumix FS4 (more pixels, longer zoom, faster this and that, etc.) the pictures produced were nowhere near as good.

I'm not familiar with this model but... I wouldn't if it was my money.

Can you use the zoom and pause while recording in movie mode?

Takes up to 8GB HDSD, pity it can't take 16GB.

Bought one a fe weeks ago at £99.99 and its great, fantastic OS, execellent quality pics both day and night, great features and loads of gimmicks smile and blink etc, and im using a 16GB SDHC Card fine in it (class 6)

cnt recommend enough for a budget camera one f the best i have used, in fact since i got it a few weeks ago i have used it more than my SLR!.
