Samsung PS42C450 42-inch 600Hz Freeview HD Ready Plasma TV

You might consider revising the title as people might think this is "Freeview HD" ready, rather than regular "Freeview" and also HD-Ready IYSWIM. :)

I also assume the description of it being 4:3 aspect is wrong.

Megamart.

Looks like a bargain compared to other options on the market right now.

However, im in the market for a new tv and believe better deals will come along very soon.

The majority of new models will feature freeview hd or freesat hd, and so the old ones will be discounted to clear.

Here's hoping!

Eh?

The resolution is 1024 x 768 if the pixels were square that would be a 4:3 aspect ratio, to make a wide screen with square pixels the resolution would need to be 1366 x 768. This means that the pixels on this screen has a low horizontal resolution. If you connected a computer to the TV to watch iplayer etc it would all be wrong.

It is a good price for a plasma TV but it is an odd resolution. I would have gone for it if it was the proper resolution for wide screen.

As the same incorrect assumptions in respect plasma tvs are constantly coming up, especially the 1024x768 not being widescreen or 720p, and these fill the threads with the same arguments, is there no way to put some sort of plasma myths dispelled sticky with these? It's getting frustrating having ill informed users posting inaccuracies detracting from informed discussion about the product in question.

I got this tv last month and when I first hooked up my computer the highest resolution available was 1024 x 768 which resulted in a streched 4:3 picture which did annoy me. However by going into the graphic card control panel I was able to add a 1366 x 768 resolution which displays a true 16:9 widescreen picture and looks great. OK text is slightly soft but it's perfectly usable for browsing.

I can understand the confusion over the perceived lack of resolution as I had the same misgivings when I first looked into buying a plasma having only owned LCD's before. The fact is on a screen this size and for the majority of content that people will be watching on it this resolution is more than sufficient. Plasma still has a lot of benefits over LCD at this price range and the main downside of this tv for me is the reflective screen (only really a problem because I have the screen directly opposite a window).

The only other problem I have had was when putting it on the stand the screw holes weren't big enough which was extremely frustrating. Seems to be a common problem and is a bit ridiculous really but overall it was a great buy for the price.
