I do apologise , this is my first deal submission & I don't know how to add a photo to the headline bit above.

Here's a direct link to the tv.

*link removed cos it's seemingly got my own personal details in it*
*sorry im a techy moron*
*check the currys site yourselves !!"
#2
Looks like sale has started. Its £699 on web site now.
#3
Yeah it looks like they're updating their systems with the new prices.

One page listing the tv's available still has the old price £978, but when you click on the tv itself it's quoting £699.
#4
will i wait to see if it get cheaper?..em, HOT!
#5
Just be careful with image retention as the samsung plasma panels are particularly bad for it. It's not an issue covered by warranty as it's not a fault as such. This is a decent TV, just be aware of this issue so it doesnt freak you out if you buy one

To be clear on the teminology

Image retention is the temporary ghosting of a previous static image (such as a chanel logo, or HUD when gaming).

Screen burn is the permanent appearance of a static image.

I think that I'll wait for one with free 25 year guarantee, plus free speakers and stand - and a man to switch it on and off for me!

Seriously - where are you going to find a 50" with 1080P for this price (£629 at Dixons on Xmas Day or even £699 otherwise) with a free 5 year guarantee? The only 50" Samsung at John Lewis - which do give a 5 year guarantee - is 768 and costs £799!

Review
http://whathifi.com/Review/Samsung-PS50A556/

Personnaly, I've gone for the 42" panny at £450. Better deal IMO, and better reviews. But then again, it's not a like-for-like comparison.
#19
ordered one earlier when they had the 10% thing... been waiting for a 1080p to come down to this price, had a look around, the currys/dixons and comet are all doing these at 699 now... so they will keep on coming down over time, or they are being replaced with newer models... but a great price for a telly that size!! :D

If I had the cash I would!

People should learn how to shorten links! www.currys.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/139898

I don't like click on big links as they can contain all sorts of ****.

Seems hot to me, have reserved one to go and pick up from currys today, although Comet are offering the:
SAMSUNG PS50A557S3FXXU for £699
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/448222/SAMSUNG-PS50A557S3FXXU/tab/specification#spec

desperately trying to find the difference between the two???

Anyone know which may be the better set? I have compared specs and can find no difference so it may just be a cosmetic thing, however if the 557 is a better unit the comet deal will be better than currys.
If i discover more info i'll post it.

whats the difference between 20000:1 dynamic contrast for the currys 1 an 30000:1 contrast ratio for the comet 1?
#30
the samsung website quotes them both as 30000:1
#31
Im going to go an have a look at them in a minute before i buy ,still being draw towards the Panasonic TH42PX80B 42 though cuz of the brilliant reviews

They're exactly the same apart from the casing. Currys and Comet have different model numbers so they don't have to pricematch anyone.

Thanks for the info, went and bought the one from comet as cosmetically it looks nicer and better deal on a stand.

I finally saw my mate's new telly today. It is totally magnificent. The picture quality is simply amazing & I defy anyone not to be impressed by the quality of this particular model. Can't comment on the sound quality because he's wired it into his surround sound system.

V impressive piece of kit. If my own living room was a bit larger I'd buy one myself.

He mentioned that his local Currys sold all 19 tv's this morning, it seems quite a popular deal.

Been playing with the SAMSUNG PS50A557S3FXXU from Comet all afternoon, awesome piece of kit especially at that price. I reserved the 556 at Curry's but popped into Comet to look at the 557 at comet and so glad i did, much nicer looking set.
I replaced my Sonia Bravia 50" with this and love it, its awesome in HD and looks so sleek too.
couldn't comment on the sound as i put it through a surround amp.
What a lot of Plasma for £699 if you are considering it, go for it you won't be dissapointed.

Use "SALE25" to get 2.5% off at Dixons, oh and 3% Quidco makes for a good deal.

Considering getting this one and selling my Panny TH-42PZ70E.......decisions, decisions...........

I went in yesterday (26th) and there were none in store. I was offered the display model, without it's box, for £599!! Needless to say I reserved it and I'm picking it up today. What a bargain that is.

Totally peed off though. About three years ago I bought a samsung 42" (my first plasma) and as the world cup was on Comet took delight in charging my £1600 for it. Never again!

I'd never take a display model from Currys or Comet!
Sitting there switched on for 12 hours a day with the contrast and brightness all the way up and never having been bedded in properly.
