Nice if you're after something that big but I think I'll hold out for a 1080p one :)

You can have one. Just 3 times the price! This is a very good deal for anyone who normally sits 9-15ft from their telly and doesn't have to have the absolute best TV and will settle for a very good one.

You can have it all! For £1500 get the KDS55a2000, a 55" 1080p with plasma performance. Large enough that you don't have to sit silly close to benefit from 1080p, and contrast/colours that only the £5k plasmas can beat.

Cool, hopefully over that year that kind of thing will be in reach of my humble budget.
#7
Fingers crossed for you. I've already got mine so won't be buying again for a long time!

Be careful with this model as ones with model November or December 2006 Slovakia may have a buzzing fault.

Hi jcm502, thanks for the post on this whopper of a TV.

Please try to make your posts as detailed as possible - I've added an image and a brief description. We also try to show delivery in all posts, so I've included this as well. There's a useful link in my sig for help with posting deals.

Thanks again!!

Thanks for the tip, how can you tell which models are affected?

do you have a web link to the problem?

Cheers :)

I think its all models that were built in Nov or Dec 06 in Slovakia that have the buzzing fault. There should be a label on the back of if saying where it was made and the date. There is quite a few threads in the AVForums discussing it.

http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=462720

I phoned 5 retailers this afternoon to ask if they could check the model number on the back to see where it was made. Only one said they check it prior to me buying it.

Thanks, what retailer said they would check? as i am seriously thinking about buying this particular plasma and I want to get one without any problems as its a lot of money and a big purchase for me.

Which retailer are you thinking of buying it off?

Cheers

This is what i posted earlier in the AV Forums.

I have started phoning retailers to see if they are willing to check the manufacture date before i purchase one. I will keep adding more to the list.

PRC (£1113 delivered) - Would not check :-(
Digital Point (£1135 delivered) Would not check :-(
digico.co.uk (£1149 delivered) Would not check :-(
RGB direct (£1198 delivered) Would not check :-(
A J Electronics (I spoke to a guy called Nizar)(£1160 delivered) Would check

The guy from RGB said if they opened the box to check it, it would void the warrantly. Sounds a bit dubious to me. Is he right ?
#15
They wont want to open the box unless they know theyve got a sale, as once its open they may not be allowed to sell it as new and will therefore lose money.

That may be the case but would you take the risk on shelling out nearly £1200 knowing you might be sent a faulty telly ?

Thanks for the info, might wait a few weeks to see if the problem is resolved or the price drops a bit lower, but it is a beautiful set at 50"

But its a rear projection tv! why not then buy a projector and have a 100" or higher screen. Rear projection have bad viewing angles and loads of other problems

Nope, no other problems, and viewing angles are fine. As for front projectors, they can be a good idea for some people, but 1080p models are still extremely expensive. At minimum you're paying £2.5k to get a decent model, and a bucketload more to get one with the same contrast and pic quality as the Sony. Then you have to shell out £500 for a decent fixed screen or £1000 for motorised, more for a wall/ceiling mount, and the need to replace the bulb every 2000 hours at £200-£300 a pop.....

Projectors are a great way to get a giant 720p picture it's true, but for 1080p or top notch contrast they're way too expensive.

Lol he is full of crap. They are only taped. No-one would even know. But I suppose it is against the rules, after all it would be an open box product and if caught I suppose could be held liable to some form of law. But it does happen, I work in the business.

I even see display models getting re-boxed to be honest. :-(

Has anyone bought this Samsung 50' Plasma TV or would recommend it?

I've heard on good authority that :

Samsung PS50Q7HD has a piano black glossy finish

and

Samsung PS50C7HD has a matt black finish

Personally, I think the piano glossy one looks awesome yet whilst searching on the internet a lot of companies show a picture of the matt black version even when they are selling the Samsung PS50Q7HD (which is the piano glossy one) ??!

I e-mailed one internet company and the cheeky b**ger told me what you see is what you get !! Wow, customer service eh ? I won't be ordering from them.
