There are a number of R20s around. It is like comparing oranges and lemons.

For example - I bought an R20 plus for £480 but it a lot higher spec than this and I am totally happy with it and think it looks great rather than ugly. It scores 4.8 on processor and 4.4 on memory on the Windows Experience Index which I doubt this would.

Best go by spec and decent manufacturer than price.

Oh hush. The 1MB cache will have no bearing on running Vista, and 1GB RAM is fine. The processor speed is also fine.

Though people really should try Linux anyway.

refurbished compaq or a brand new samsung. still not an easy decision.

You can't compare the ACER to this - the ACER's, whilst nice enough machines, are HOUSEBRICKS - the 15" is 'barely portable' and the 17" is a desktop with a handle :)

The 14" Compaqs are OK but again the 15" models are heading into 'luggable' country.

The last Samsung R20 I saw was a nice size/weight for carrying tho - but I guess if this REALLY matters you'd be buying a netbook/EEE etc. at this point...
