My first post, so go easy on me lads.
My father recently bought this Samsung R530 laptop from Pixmania. It seems like a good buy considering it has an i3 processor and 4GB RAM and is a reasonable make.
Price shown here includes delivery, base price is £432. Might be Quidco or similar available on top of that, didn't check.
Spec details: -
Processor: Intel Core i3-330M
RAM: 4096 MB DDR3
Screen: 15.6" 1366x768 resolution
Hard drive: 500GB
OS: Windows 7 Home (32-bit)
Size: 379.8 x 255.5 x 36.2 mm
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics
Includes 3 USB ports and HDMI and VGA outs
Includes DVD-RW drive
Having had a quick play with it and looked at similar options, here are some of the positives: -
HDMI port a handy option for connecting to TV
Nice to see wireless N on board
4GB DDR3 and an i3 processor very good considering the price
Screen image quality seems decent (subjectively)
Keyboard has a numeric keypad and feels reasonable
And some of the negatives: -
Ships with 32-bit Windows 7 which is pretty dumb, so only 3.5GB or so of the RAM is actually usable
Pixmania not the best retailer (we had no problems getting this item, but poorly rated in general)
Only basic Intel on-board graphics, so not suitable for gaming etc.
Average battery life (probably 2 hours in real use)
Mousepad feels cheap and is a bit small (but I normally use a Macbook so YMMV) - does at least feature 2 finger scrolling though
Finish is quite plasticky, some faux brushed aluminium bits which feel like plastic (and probably are) look alright from a distance.
A lot of these downsides are to be expected at this price range, but wanted to give the best information I could so anyone thinking of getting one can weigh it up.
Overall I feel it's a good buy given the cheap price for this spec.
