This seems like a deal to me as the cheapest I can seem to find it online is about £650 although I'm not really up to speed on Laptops and such like. Seems like a pretty good price considering it has Blu-Ray.

Great deal!!

Been looking at r580's for a while as they get excellent reviews. Would be good to know what graphics processor it has as there were a couple of different ones on the r580.

They were around this price without Blu Ray so good deal

VERY good price for a R580 with Blu-Ray.
Most R580's in this price range have 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, and DVD-RW only (although some have slightly better CPU).

I have an R780, exact same spec except mine has 17" screen.. Very happy with it.

Only problem is it come with 32bit Win7 installed, and no recovery disks. So you can't install 64bit.

According to the Samsung product code posted by the OP, this has nVIDIA GeForce 330M.

OK deal - HOT

[Edit: Not such a good deal as it seems this does not have the 330M card but somthing a little slower - you'll still be able to play most demanding games on low settings] The 330M makes this a decent gaming laptop; the only let-downs are the screen resolution and 32bit Windows 7 (although maybe that's a plus for some folks).

If you're patient, prepared to spend a fair amount of time looking and prepared to take a risk then you'll find better value at Dell Outlet - but this is available off the shelf without the hassle.

does having 32 bit windows mean you wont be able to access all 4gig ram?

Weight and battery life (as ever) seem to be the only negs.

Yes, puzzles me why they do this! Still its a great price especially with Blu-Ray.

This will have the 310 graphics. There is confusion over this. The 310 will not play games.

Whilst I reckon it will have the 310M myself, your statement is a slight exaggeration. It should play pretty much anything your throw at it but obviously with the detail etc turned down. The 330M is a far better option if gaming is your thing.

I have a standard R580 that I bought a few months back minus the blu-ray drive and it cost me £550 and that was the cheapest I could find. Great all round laptop and looks fantastic but the glossy finish is a fingerprint magnet!

You can get 9 cell batteries for this laptop for around £70 off ebay. Not official Samsung batteries but should work all the same and provide nearly double the juice.

Voted hot from me!

What's the point of 4GB RAM and then installing Win 7 32 bit?

I know next to nothing about laptops and teh speed of their GPU's - what's the 330M equivalent to - an 8800GT?

If the OP has the model number correct, a quick google reveals it IS the 330m.

That said, I can see no sign of the model number of the Tesco Direct sight.

32 bit Windows will still give access to 2.75->3.5 gig of RAM depending on memory mapped devices. That's enough to provide benefit. Why not 64 bit? Some drivers and apps are still not 64 bit or more stable in 32 bit versions though this is less and less valid.

GPUs - look up the charts, I think toms hardware has them.

Just to clarify 32 bit apps will run on 64 bit windows, but some dodgy ones may not be happy, but they're unlikely to be happy with win7 anyway.

Well for example, I put COD MW2 on it and it did not play well on lowest settings. Plus things like High Def videos will struggle on this one, they struggle on my Vaio with 4GB ram and 330M GT

My reply was slightly brief because I was on my iPhone

If you google the model number of this product, you will see it has the 310M - Sadly. When this model first came out there was confusion over the GPU, I bought one myself and it was a 310M

If it was 330 GT then it would be super amazing.

good deal. Think I might have to get one o these need a new laptop.

As far as I can tell the graphics card is an NVIDIA N11P-GE which is a low power version of the GT 330M featuring a minimal slower clock rate to give it less power consumption.
#19
Can this laptop be hooked up to a full hd computer screen and watch a blue ray movie on the bigger computer screen rather than watching it on the 15.6 inch laptop screen?
#20
Output HDMI (HDCP Compliant) - (yes)
#21
If anyone does buy from here could you please post details of the GPU and run GPU-Z. Much appreciated.

PS HOT if 330M, not so if 310M!

How do you know what GPU it has? I'm guessing the OP phoned Tesco for the Samsung product code, and that shows it to have the 330M.

Instead of just presuming the OP was wrong, how about you go get some proof instead of just telling everyone it's lower spec than posted.

You are correct, it is a 330M - (i3-330M) Which is the processor

to clear up the sniping comments I have already owned one of these, and can confirm it is the Nvidia GT310 -

The only R580 that has the GT330 is the i5 Version (NP-R580-JS03DE) - There was massive confusion when this first came out because there was a mistake on the samsung website, which has now been changed.
