First "Bargain" be gentle.

I've been searching for a "Killer Lap" and this is looking like the one.

Its got the new 2nd gen Sandybridge i7-2630QM and the GFXcard seems rather good, not that I'm after a gaming PC..

Samsung seem to be making everything these days.

Jack of all trades master of jack

Great laptop but there sort of isn't a point in it... I mean its going to be a noisy, hot, power hungry laptop that isn't going to be portable? You could probably just buy yourself a more powerful desktop and a portable laptop for the price...

Well I want a desktop replacement laptop so the lack of portability isn't a problem and the lack of space here means I can use it where I can fit in.

In my view that's an ignorant statement. Samsung laptops get quite good reviews - I've only seen a couple (outside of shops) and their owners were very pleased. As far as I know samsung TVs are very well respected and their phones and cameras are excellent.

Optimus and sandy bridge mean it won't be too power hungry. Many people (like me) want a desktop replacement and don't need a fully portable 11hr battery life laptop.

Edit: I don't think this has been released yet; Amazon is showing delivery in 1-2 months and nowhere else seems to carry this model. This Polish site has a lower spec model http://www.x-kom.pl/p/63058-notebook-laptop-17,3-samsung-rf711-i7-2630qm-4096-500-dvd-rw-7hp64.html
That has no blu-ray and only 500Gb disk; it only has a 1600x900 screen - presumably the Amazon model would be 1080p anything less would be pathetic at this price point.

Good spot - I couldn't find that...

It seems it's definitely too early to be buying this monster - I couldn't find any reviews at all so it's a lot of money to shell out for a dubious return...

Which bit of buying it is dubious?

I'm assuming that when the new Sandy Bridge Dell XPS 17 comes out, it will be cheaper than this Samsung offering.
#9
panel res. is 1600 x 900, at this money I'd want full 1080p resolution.

I didn't mean dubious to suggest Amazon or Samsung are in some way unreliable; but presently there is very little information on this laptop so you would be staking your 1K without really knowing what you're getting...

Say NO to Samsung Laptops

I have owned 2 samsung laptops P28 and Q45 both broke down within 2-3 years each.

P28 - the fan broke causing the laptop to over heat and shut down.

Q45 - Motherboard failure and hard drive failure.

Neither of these laptops were cheap, they had good reviews at the time but Samsung laptops just do not stand the test of time.

These problems were not a result of accident or carelessness but hardware failure due to what i suspect is badly made components.

My brother also has a samsung and the psu does not fit properly and the optical drive has broken.

A friend of mine has a Samsung NC10 (2008 model) and i am told that the screen is about to give in.

To conclude if you want a laptop that is going to survive more then three years without, the fan breaking, the motherboard and hard drive breaking, the power supply pin fitting, the optical drive breaking or the screen breaking then do not under any circumstances buy Samsung.

Hope this is helpful.

I know samsung tellys are reasonable. but everything else they make build wise is dubious. Reviews are written shortly after purchase, not usually a little while down the road when the product fails.

my samsung notebook is working since i have them (more than 5 years) and they never failed, while i heard of numerous problems with other notebook brands. And, i had my samsung everywhere, even in desert heat and dust!
Same with my samsung phones, i have to give them away to other people when i want the next model, coz they never brake, even when they fall down!

Hi guys, the processor is very good, the graphics card upper average.
have a look here to compare components...
benchmarklist for CPU'sbenchmarklist for GPU's
and if you want a beast then wait for a 17 inch sandybridge with the nvidia GTX 460M
Or if 15" is good enough for you (and is much more portable...) then have a look at the MSI GT680
Excellent value for money

buju247 - you might want to backup your claims. lookup Samsung EX-1 (it's a compact digital camera), which I bought by the way. Best looking and best built compact camera I've ever seen. And it is working very well.

And my 55" LCD is working very very well too.

Samsung Laptops are ****, I bought one of these NP-RF711-S04UK and it cost me 900 quid, it lasted 16 months of normal use, now its not working at all... 400 quid for a new board which will do the same thing!!!, samsung can kiss my backside if they think i'm buying any more of their cheap nasty crap, and I will post this in every review I find for samsung... I will make sure they loose some purchases after treating me the way they have. A whole batch of these are bad but they still sold them regardless to being advised by intel not too
