Samsung TV? Mine does the same from time to time. I find if you switch it off and back on but leave it plugged in that usually fixes it.

I have my suspicions that some TVs can't cope with spinning disks (power consumption?). I would be surprised if it works with any of them if it doesn't work with the one you've tried. You may have to stick with flash sticks, or have you tried a 3.5" drive which has its own power supply?

I've had my share of bad experiences with both but that doesn't stop me buying from either although I'd prefer ebuyer as they are pretty quick for returns and general support

Works on my Samsung TV, my daughters and my fathers. As I said sometimes it doesn't see the drive but it's not too often and switching the tv on and off normally sorts it.

Just ordered a second one for myself as the first one is almost full.

This is an excellent drive! Bought one a few months back paid £80 for it but its worth it. Found so many bad reviews for other HDDs but this one was easily the most recommended and i recommend it also!

Also possibly the best looking HDD available ; )

With regards to using portable hard drives with TVs, I always use swissknife to reformat the drive from NTFS to FAT32 and have never had any issues with a number of combinations of drive and TV manufacturer.

i've only had good experiences with both amazon and ebuyer
you can't blame either if a product goes wrong after etc
i had to return items to ebuyer under warranty and they have been brilliant

I prefer eBuyer and will buy from them

is this hot because its 2.5" ? because i thought i saw a 1tb for 46.99 but admittedly it was 3.5"

another question if may while im here, why would one prefer to pay more for 2.5" of 1tb storage, over 3.5" ?

TIA

@ir2000 the 2.5" are "portable" and therefore pocket-sized. also they are powered by the usb port they are plugged into, whereas the 3.5" drives need their own power supply and are generally a fair size larger.

I would not trust Amazon to package air so that it did not break in transit :)

Thank you very much. Exactly what i was looking for. Comes with a nice leather case too. Perfect for my media streamer.

Ordered from ebuyer, as Amazon takes longer to deliver.

Perhaps the hard drive went to idle state when not accessed for a certain time as mine connected to Wii does it when not in use, or the format of the drive can't be recognised by the TV like my Sony bdp-s370 only recognises FAT and FAT32 not NTFS which is a shame as you can have only files smaller than 4GB whereas nearly all the HD contents are over that limit. One more suggestion is that maybe just some of the files you have on your drive could be supported, not all of them.

Yes, even that. Standard laptops (and Acer Revos) have 65W power supplies; netbooks have 35W or so power supplies. There is capacity to spare for an extra 2.5" drive. Besides which, the question was about how many USB ports were needed to provide power.

What does it do to your daughters and fathers exactly, and if you don't mind me asking, how come you have more than one father?

I generally prefer Amazon for most things. It should be ok for this hard drive as it's retail boxed, but when you buy any OEM stuff from amazon it comes loose in an oversized box, and you dread to think what trauma the delicate electrical part has endured.

In my experience, eBuyer are more considerate when packaging electronics.

Nice find, mine came this morning and after transferring a few films found it worked perfectly in the USB port on my DVD player and played the films I transferred perfectly. Bonus is it is a nice looking drive and feels very solid. £70.00 for a 1tb 2.5inch usb powered hard drive is a no brainer.
