The new Samsung S2 Portable external hard drive is the new light weight and low power hard drive from Samsung . The exclusive USB on board technology reduces the lenth of the hard drive making this drive smaller than a WD Passport.
It allows you to expand your storage capacity, copy, save, delete and even run files straight from your portable hard drive in the same way you would from your PC hard disk and is ultra light and perfect for all your storage needs, allowing you to quickly and safely back up all your files where ever, when ever.
With lots of of storage capacity you can make a movie theater, a music store, and an office of your own and take all of them with you for experiencing ultimate mobility.

* Protect valuable data, the S Series drives support Samsung Auto Backup and SecretZone
* Windows Vista, XP Home/Professional Edition, 2000 Pro, Mac OS x 10.4.8 or later

Great price for a portable, although I'm sure the "you can get a 1tb one for only £60" crew will be along soon to provide their views (missing out the distinction between portable and desktop drives).

Would be even better if the drive could easily be removed and would fit in a laptop/playstation etc considering hard disks this size normally come in at much closer to the £100 mark.

.

This makes so much difference. I travel as a trainer, and on flights etc. and have to keep confidential data and video sequences with me. I also need a backup of my laptop HDD just in case. For many people such capacities in a small lightweight case aren't a massive issue and a 1Tb desktop drive for less money is ideal, but these 500gb plus portable drives are a godsend for me. Flight bags can be smaller and lighter with all the other stuff i also carry.

great deal, slightly more cost than the 500gb wd elements posted about a month ago, in terms of cost per GB, but u cant get it anymore and this is a smaller drive.

wd elements
56.33 / 500gb = 0.11266p

this deal
74.98 / 640gb = 0.11716p

great deal,

and please before anyone votes cold this is a 2.5" and not a 3.5" one

differences are:

3.5" needs a external power source and cannot run just on a usb cable. U'll need to carry a chunky power adapter with u, so its not really portable.

Its obviously a lot smaller and lighter

quieter as well.

My first pc had a hard drive of 650 Mb, and I was considered quite flash with that at the time :)

Is the 500GB Samsung S2 for £59.99 better value?
#8
Price per meg for the 640 gig works out slightly cheaper than the 500 gig drive.
#9
can u use this with a wd media player or do you have to have 1 with external power source?

My 500gb usb powered portable drive works perfectly with the WD Media player.

You should edit and put the price in the title.

Glad I managed to get the Seagate 500gb drive for £49.97 last week

You can get a 1TB drive much cheaper elsewhere. Cold.

;-)

Please could you put the price in deal titles otherwise it isn't displayed for RSS feeds thanks. Not a bad price but obviously the 500GB that crops up sometimes is a better deal.

is this recognised when plugged into USB port of PS3??

does anyone have this drive?

Am tempted but concerned it may have the same dodgy micro USB connector as the new WD drives. All my cables are micro USB so don't want to have to use a different cable for this one.

Does anyone know if this has a mirco or mini USB connector?

These USB Portable disks are 17% small than the competition , this is done by replacing the standard sata interface/circuit board of the hard disk , with a non-standard usb only circuit board, to reduce the size - you can't dismantle this usb drive and use the internal disk in your laptop or PS3.

If I find the link again to the circuit board , I'll upload the picture.

Great as just a 2.5 Portable USB Drive though.
