S203N is lightscribe and S203B is normal.

Can't tell if this is the N or B model as Chancer says....not sure if it says and I'm being blind.... otherwise ring up play and see what they say (0845 800 1020 i think)

who cares if its lightscribe lol. its cheap and good!

lightscribe is useless in my opinion

I'd go for features rather than speed in this day and age. The speeds are becoming a little redundant with the exception, perhaps, of dual layer. The jump from 1x to 4x was enormous, the jump from 16x to 22x is very small in terms of time saved. The speeds are only maximum speeds measured on the outer edge of the disk anyway, where it's moving the quickest.

That said, a great price on a fast DVD writer to be sure. Voted hot!

I think I'd use lightscribe on normal DVD's - just to save me scratching around for a pen :) I can't imagine me spending any time creating something to present though.
#11
Don't you need special "lightscribe" discs to lable your discs? I'm sure normal dvdr's won't work.

Correct me if i'm wrong, which is usually the case:-D
#12
You do need lightscribe discs instead of normal DVDs (cost alot more) and be warned if you want to put any form of image on it does take an age, also for a nice dark picture you need to do it twice which puts it at around 1 1/2 hours for a single disc. I did 100 for my school prom a few things back ... not a good idea lol

No sorry, my fault, didn't mean normal in that sense. I meant discs that weren't keepers - one's that I wouldn't be bothered about printing a label on with my inkjet printer.

When I read it back to myself I wonder how in the wide wide world of sport I ever expected anyone to understand what I was on about I don't know :)

Yes, you need compatible discs - I always have two types - slightly cheaper non-printable and printable. If I had a lightscribe DVD writer I would have lightscribe DVD's and printable DVD's.

Great price and its play so a bit of quidco and reasonable service. Ordered one to replace the garbage writer in my dell xps 420...
#22
Would make a bit of space inside the old PC... I hate IDE cables... Even the round ones!
#23
I'm probably being really thick, but, this drive would work with this motherboard right?

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/117990

It says on board SATA so it must work, :S would the drive come with the SATA cable? i've never used SATA before so know very little about it.

Would this one or the other one be best? not fussed about the price and i currently have an ancient 4x DVD writer which is on its last legs and takes about 20 minutes to burn a data DVD!!!

Thanks if anyone can help

Anyone has tried burning Xbox360 games with this (DL +R) ? :)

Definitely would work but very unlikely to come with the cable. If the issue of sata cables/sata power cables make you unsure then go for the 'other one'. You could simply slip your old one out(disconnecting cables with pc turned off) slip in your new one, connect the cables back up and done. All your current software will work, you don't have to guess where the cables go cos they are already there ;)

Finally ordered one and heat added.

Saved the £10 Ebuyer postage too AND got Quidco.

Just a quickie, I have a red small cable running to existing DVD/CD Writer (To my knowledge this is NOT a DVD writer although the Dimension 520 is only a year old) anyway. I assume that it'll plug in in place of the existing with no probs?

Thanks

If the end of the cable is about 2cm wide then yes that's the one. Also, there will be a power cable that has a similar looking connector that is about 3 cm wide.

To be fair that was for an entire dvd worth of image but is alot more effort then just scribbling on with a pen.

You have to burn the DVD, open the lightscribe software, sort out your design, burn it etc. In hindsight, I would have gone forget it and just left them plain ;-) If your looking for something to quickly label discs then lightscribing isn't it. If your looking to make special dvds as presents or just for a collection this is much more suited to it.
