Seems like an excellent price (plus quid co) for a quality make. It's not out just yet but is available for pre-order!

Nero 7 Essentials (OEM) software is included with this drive.

Because of the free delivery it is (most retailers charge for delivery). This is also one of the best SATA burners on the market.
Voted ++ :thumbsup:

12x dual layer write speed... 20x dvd... whoah. Blistering. The reviews it's been getting are wonderful as well.

If I hadn't bought a 212 last month, I'd definately put my name down for one of these.

great post

Whats with the warm vote wraithchild? lol. Free P&P from play + quidco make this a good price.

Can't wait to get mine 20x sounds fast!!!

I got a pair of these burners in the summer and there great! Best I have ever used.
#8
so is this a dual layer drive? and how easy is it to fit for someone who has never fitted a pc component before except for a stick of RAM lol

i have a dell vostro 200 base unit, will this work with it and will i need anything else to fit it except for a screwdriver?

Great but it is a Play pre-order so don't expect to get it for another year!

Cheap enough; bought one.
#11
I've always wanted a better DVDRW than my cheapo Dell one in my system, but couldn't find any last time I looked.

Thanks for this, pre-ordered.. my 3rd or 4th Play order this week !:(
#12
seeing as its got software its probably the retail version too...

Erm... what makes you think that? Play do plenty of pre-orders on things (from DVDs to things like this) that nobody has any problems with.

And according to the site, it is actually released on the 8th of October (this year, not next :p).

Play have been quite good with my pre-orders.

It will be interesting to see what version of Nero it comes with. I am guessing (and it is just a guess!!!) that it will be version 7 cause version 8 comes out this week.

7 is pretty good though so I hope it is

Just ordered one to replace the LG **** in my dell system...for that price you can't go wrong.....just make sure you have SATA ports on your mobo before you order....first drive I ever bought was a Sony 2x CD caddy drive...no rewrite ability and cost £215.....first dvd writer was a Pioneer 104 4x write which was a bargin at a puter fair at the time for £165 as I already said for £17.99 you can't go wrong :)
#19
Why is this pre-order when Dabs have had them in stock for a while? Strange.

If its SATA which I think it is then yes...dell are pretty good at making systems easy to work on so you should be able to fit this without any tools...you will need a SATA lead if you want to add it in addtion to the drive you already have.
#21
In the review I found it says that it allows you to burn at a higher speed than the media states. Does anyone know if it will write an 8x disc any quicker?

Depends on the media code. It let's me write 8x MCC 02RG20 (Infiniti White Tops) at 12x.

SATA leads are not like ide leads, they are thin and only allow one device per cable, unlike ide which can have 2 connector, Dell systems do not come with spare leads (although the power lead withh be there) Sata cable will look like the one shown here

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roline-Hdd-Cable-S-Ata-1-0M/dp/B000FFJN6M/ref=pd_bbs_2/202-9702736-6562201?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1191108679&sr=8-2

whereas a ide cable looks like the one shown here

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultra-DMA-Data-Ribbon-Cable/dp/B00077DJF4/ref=sr_1_5/202-9702736-6562201?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1191108748&sr=1-5

forgot to add...yes its dual layer and if the spec is correct its also burns RAM discs :)

For people who can free delivery at Scan they have it in their Deal of the Day for £17.04 this weekend. Price shown as £18.79 but adds to basket at £17.04.

I wouldnt cd higher than 8x and dvds faster than 4x, the problem of burning them faster than stated is that it damages the quality of burning.A cd burned higher than 8x aint going to last very long because the burning is fast and superficial, the slow the burn the better and deeper the burning qulaity therefore longer lasting. with dvds if u burn them too fast you will have especially at the end of the movie where video will freeze.will happen even to best quality cds or dvds.

It comes with Nero 7 essentials OEM

You may also need to enable the sata header in the BIOS - I had to with my dell Dimension.

Great deal but does anyone know of any decent lightscribe drives instead?

I received mine today ordered from Scan. It contained the drive and Nero OEM only.

Nero compised

Nero Express v7.5.9.1
InCD 5
Nero Vision Express
Nero BackItUp
Nero Showtime
Nero Recode

I haven't been able to test it cos I found I didn't have a spare SATA power connector in my pc

Nero Showtime
Nero Recode

Not retail Pack.

I have used my samsung drive for a couple of days now and am impressed with its performance. Its a joy to burn DVDs at X16, where my old burner could only manage X4. Only downside is it is quite noisy, even when just playing DVDs.
