Interesting article I was just reading about how only about 8% of people actually want 3DTVs. I think until this technology becomes standard amongst normal tvs, for the same price, it's never going to take off.

It smacks of profiteering by the tv manufacturers.

What a strange thing for a business to do.

I got this deal at the start of Dec in Comet Great TV heat added
#10
Never listen to polls what 8% is this exactly - I have never filled in a poll regarding this so i know straight away this is not correct! - i know at least 5 people chomping at the bit to go 3d for sports and ps3 games alone.

And to the guys moaning about price i agree once you can get a 3d tv for £500 it wont be that popular - but this is just the general cycle of time just like lcds tvs came out at first you could not get a 1080i tv for less that 1k...now they are £500 most people have them this is always the same for cars, computers, digital cameras...

Surely manufacture of 3d tvs is more expensive to produce - electronic companies have not just stuck in a £3 board and charge us £400 extra, i imagine they have put it out as cheap as they can to get us hooked.

Im probably the worst person here thats wants it for free but come on guys a bit of common sense is needed...

But polls dont/cant ask eveyrone. Any stat is a representation not a true value but shows a trend. Just because you werent consulted doesnt mean it isnt an accurate representation! Otherwise no drug would ever be licensed because it hasnt been tested on everyone!

shows up as £948 for me

I have been using this TV for the past 3 months and am happy with the purchase. Lots of 3D contents for kids (Limited 3D for adults :) )
Picture is fantastic/crisp/clear. There is image retention when you pause a picture for long but it clears away (Frankly, this is not a problem, it does not actually burn the screen).
There is a small buzz in the Power Supply Unit (Most if not all plasmas do because of the transformers and power Mosfets working).

Been this price in several stores for ages (and cheaper), and I'm sure it's been posted several times recently, so am surprised at the heat.

I got this a month or so ago at £998 and am really pleased with it. Have had a samsung 46inch plasma in the bedroom for a few years now and no problem,, unless your a sony snob..

Comet deal for £899
PC World deal for £898 (package deal is £1 cheaper half way down the page)
Amazon deal is TV only at £809
John Lewis deal is £999 but OOS, has previously been £899, but with 5 year guarantee
Richer Sounds is £769.95 TV only, or £846.94 with 5 year guarantee

I think I am going to hold out for a reduction from John Lewis again, as I need the 5 year guarantee. I thought about the Richer Sounds deal, but would need to fork out for all the extras etc
#23
I've never had a problem with Samsung TV's.
#24
Expired by the look of it. No showing as £948

Bought this on boxing day and did get 2 pairs of specs with it. It also has a built in media player so you can plug an external hard drive in and play films etc. Even plays 1080p mkv without any issues.
#28
Shrek 3D????

What is the world coming to!! haha

We bought this TV from john lewis a few weeks ago, does anyone have sync loss when using the 3d glasses? Around 8 times per movie, all three lose sync at the same time for about a second or two, then turn back on?

From my sample size of 1, the IR was pretty bad for the first 100 hours. After that, there's barely any - even with the settings turned up high.

About £27 off then I suppose.

The 1 year warranty worries me though. If I'm going to fork out nearly a grand, I don't want to risk having to replace it in 13 months, or after 2 years. A 50" TV I'd be likely to keep for 5 years easy, so a 5 year warranty is the biggest factor for me.

I agree about the profit, that is what a business does but they do get too greedy.

A wireless dongle for a Samsung or sony TV will set you back £60 yet it's only worth a few pounds but that's why they don't include it inside the tv or blueray player.
My blue-tooth dongle cost me less than £2 and a wifi wireless dongle can be had for under £5 but obviously will not work with a tv or blueray player - they've made sure of that.

i bought this yesterday, great telly, dont let the bloke talk you into buying a 'new' hdmi cable,
you just need a high speed hdmi. these can be had for about a fiver.

the 3d bluray player feels a little cheap, but it will be getting sold anyway, i use a tvix 7000 media player for all my .mkv files and the telly turns them all into 3d.

if your pondering getting this - at this price you cant go wrong.

i also haggled another 2 pairs of glasses out of them for the kids for £50

Can anyone verify this as MKV play back is a massive bonus for me ...plus can the build in media player handle DTS audio or just AC3 ?
