Yeah, £50 extra for 5 year warranty at M&S, kind of depends how much you care. Nice telly for a good price either way.

Hot price if you don't need the 5 year warranty. This Tv was selling at play for £479.99 a week ago. Not sure what quidco works out at?

you can get £22ish back on Quidco with M&S

I was about to post this deal - slightly gutted its cheaper than M&S as I ordered yesterday but need the 5yrs warranty as my last TV lasted 14 months and cost me £500, to pricey to (not worth) fix so need a new telly.

I've had a Samsung LE37M87BDX since around March 2008, no problems yet.

Looks old compared to my more recent laptop though (it has a WLED backlit screen,TV is CCFL, so blacks aren't entirely black).
#5
It's only 0.5% Quidco on Play, 5% on M&S.

Works out about £30 for the 5 year warranty therefore, swings and roundabouts.

who cares about extended warranty?
what about sales of goods act?

SOGA is UK law, not Jersey.

You might struggle if you were to try to get a resolution via that method.

I have this TV, but my parents panasonic px60 plasma has a FAR better picture than my Samsung!
The plasma is only 720p but people look real, colours are accurate and blacks are black! (and this is a fairly old plasma!)

I suppose the upside of LCD is possible less power consumption, brighter and sharper picture.

Personally for me:
Plasma - TV, Movies, SD Pictures
LCD - Computer Games, PC Monitors

HOT price and a decent tv, all i'm saying is consider a plasma as well!
like this perhaps? - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/627468/lg-42-inch-plasma-600hz-399-this-is

Hi All,

Just for people who consder buing this TV.
I bought this one about two months ago from M&S wiht 5 years warranty...

I was loking for a long time for good TV for reasonable price.

And I must say this TV is amazing and all I needed.

I own PS3, but tested with Xbox360 as weel.

It works flawessly.

SD TV is looking very nice as well.

There is nothing wrong I could tell about this telly.

I tested Bluray and is looking stunning as well.

I am a pro gamer and technican and I fully recommend this TV to you.

I was thinking in the past that I need 100hz but since I got tis samy there is no need.

I owned Toshiba but returned next week after beeing completely disapointed with quality.

Regards

I've plumped for the £30 more from M&S as i value the warranty and the ability to bring it instore if i had any problems to be worth more than £30

If you buy any Samsung 5 series just be wary that you will NEED to turn off the noise reduction filter to reduce the motion blur, otherwise gaming is damn near impossible, and its the same with SD picture. Turning the filter off does reduce it, but there is still a lot of motion blur present.

Its expected of large LCD TV's, but just thought I'd point it out.

Also, that "game mode" that is always present in these TVs just doesnt work at all. It simply degrades the picture quality and makes it lifeless, and does nothing to reduce input lag.

Once everything is sorted though the picture quality is immense. Comparable to my 50" panasonic plasma downstairs, but of course that doesnt have the problems LCDs do, but at twice the cost ^^

It's a Which? Magazine Best Buy. Well mentioned in What Hifi S&V too.

Very nice tv, Hot.

This is a dam good deal, I paid £479 for it back in NOV, for an early xmas present! great tv, hardly notice any blur at all!

M&S say this on all large TV's as they are delivered by their furniture department.

I ordered last Wed night and had a call on friday asking when i wanted it to be delivered

I've been watching the price of this very closely over the past few weeks, I'm getting it for my birthday in May.

It was 480, then it went down to 450, then to 430, then back up to 480, and then back down to 430, and now on 400!

Maybe it's time to buy it, I honestly can't see it getting any cheaper. And as for opinions on the TV, I've been scouring the net for months and this one is on the whole getting flawless reviews, it's supposed to be a brilliant TV with really good black-levels.

Great price!
#17
I have been watching it rise and fall for a few weeks myself. I lost patience the other day and ordered it at 429.99 from Amazon. It was dispatched today - damn.

I'd get it now for 400. Can't see it dropping more either. Good luck
#18
anyone know what the difference is between this and the b530 series??? which is newer, which is better etc cause there both the same price now

EDIT: just found the answer doing a bit of reading, it seems the 550 has a contrast ratio of 30,000:1 and the 530 has 20,000:1, thats about it... man if i had the funds id be snapping this up!

I bought the 37B550 about a year ago roughly, having no idea on the extra capabilities it offered.
Depending on the panel this set can actually play MKV's from the USB port, along with tons of other formats. Yes it doesnt decode DTS but its easy to convert.

For more info have a look at the massive thread on AVforums here

Even if your set cant enable this option in the service menu its still a fantastic TV. Pretty decent blacks and in my opinion this has the best looking bezel out of this line of Samsungs
#22
True, but I've read countless of reviews for this TV and I don't recall a single one mentioning any serious motion blur. They were all very complimentary about the set.

Yes, I am the owner of LE37B550.
No issue with lag, no issue with motion blur.

Is great for gaming. I play a lot of Killzone 2 on it and World of Warcraft.

Is a excellent TV. Just go for it mate. You won't regret.

Black level in this TV is very high, which makes blueray looks lovely.

Maybe there was an issue with b530 with motion blur and input lag - but I never had this model

Regards.

It's quite possibly the same panel. Contrast "stats" are a complete fiction.

One difference is that some 550 models have a higher end mainboard, which means better scaling, and advanced features like a Colour Management System. If you can get access to the remote in the shop, you can check and see - the better models have a Custom option under Colour Space.
