he Samsung LE40A786 Series 7 LCD TV offers a truly unique viewing experience. The Series 7 LCD is equipped with the latest LCD technology such as 100Hz Motion Plus, Full HD 1080p and Ultra Clear Panel.

Samsung's LCD 100Hz converts the amount of images intelligently from 50 to 100 frames per second by inserting a frame between each two frames. The inserted frame maintains the detailed motion characteristic of the video, and goes through motion estimation and compensation processing. Therefore, compared to a mere duplication and insertion of frames, more natural motion can be realised without undermining other characteristics such as clarity, brightness and colour.

An LCD TV's screen comprises of Polarisation filters that help reduce reflections. These Polarisation filters however can have an adverse effect on picture quality as they also block out light from the panel itself. Samsung's Ultra Clear Panel uses new uniform nano particles which can reduce reflection without affecting the Image quality of the picture.

Samsung's Smart LED technology achieves dramatic contrast and richer, more vivid colours, while at the same time using less power than normal LCD TV's. The higher contrast and bolder, clearer colours are a result of the multiple LED Backlights being able to partially turn on or off depending on the screen's brightness, thus, the black levels of the screen can now express actual blacks by shutting off the lights that normally produce greyish black

The description is confusing as it says its a LED backlit TV, but the product number is a standard 7 series?
Also the reviews are from before the series 7 LED TV were available.
Still a great TV, but I'll keep my plasma until the LED backlit ones come down in price.

Sill hot as great TV for the price.

I agree, Play didnt have their usual large spec description for the set, had a look around at some pro reviews and they give it a good review, really detailed review here:

And 85-100 from here

Thought it was a UE LED TV at first. Its sort of a mix of old and new. It's not even on samsungs website. Would like to see one in the flesh.

I bought this model just before xmas after seing a posting on here. An i can confirm it has LED backlight. Double checked the option in the menu on mine. The picture quality is excellent and the only real minor negative points are the TVs sound isn't that powerful and the remote control is ok but not great (have to point direcrly at tv). Works off Sky remote well. Overall top TV. PS3 looks amazing.

Hope this helps guys.

PS. remote does look nice and illuminates when you pick it up or move it.

This one and the series 8 were both led back lighting before the whole range was relaunched.

quote from HDtv test.

'Update 2 May 2009: The LE40A786 is slowly being phased out, and has been replaced by the Samsung UE40B7020WW which uses an Edge LED backlighting system as opposed to the local-dimming version implemented on the A786. '

I think this is an old model being phased out.

the UE40B7020 is now 1179 on Richersounds. So the email said today. ;-)
