Its a joke - many people post on computer related posts suggesting that they could get the post cheaper by building it out of Lego or their nan has a spare one she is selling cheaply.

is the dabs/bt offer better being retail?

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/702599/samsung-sh-b083l-8x-bluray-rom-dvd-

as hopefully it would come with bluray software to actually play a bluray, one of the complaints on the ebuyer reviews
of course if you have the software this is scorching

Hot - I posted an LG reader for £41.99 earlier, this is only £5 more for a faster drive which can also write to CDs/DVDs, plus I'd prefer Samsung over LG too.

Great price

Wish I didn't keep looking on here - perhaps then I'd have more money in my pocket :)

yes the other is a retail drive with software but costs £2 more, many people download bluray playing software themselves so they save £2 :)

what is the advantage of having a x10 speed rather than x8. Is it just loading times?
suspended#10
no, the difference is if you are ripping the bluray to your harddrive to either play silently without any optical drive noise or to store it on your pc or burn it to bluray or encode it to a smaller size to store on your pc. If you don't need to do that then there's no advantage to 10x for you.

i have this drive and paid a lot more than this! it was worth it at that price and is worth it even more now!
#12
anyone know an ubuntu or OSX ripping prog?
suspended#13
there are none that can rip copy protected blurays for OSX, you'll need to install vmware or something and install windows within that and then use anydvd to rip the bluray.

really? i think i'd do without blu ray rather than install windows tbh.... disapointing though i was hoping handbrake or similar could do it

Absolute bargain... until I remembered I was a 'scumbag' with no use for this.

I have no idea what you are on about.

According to one of the dabs reviews this is supposed to be quite noisy. Anybody experience this?

What software would you recommend with this?
