It's not the first time Currys have had this kit on sale. It's probably happened two or three times this year. I use Smartthings with my Echo here in Spain and it works very well

Just use Yonomi which is a free app that works well with Echo ☺

problem with Yonomi is that it relies on your phone/tablet so if you leave the house with it then nothing works any more for anyone left behind. You really need to use an 'old' phone that stays in place, powered up, and connected the whole time so whoever is at home can use it. In fact, rather like a hub which yonomi say you dont need to use their app !!

Once you've set the app up you no longer need your phone as Yonomi is in the cloud so even works with the phone off.
I use it with Harmony to turn my activities on such as watch Amazon Fire TV or Watch Sky, so it turns everything on and sets the correct channels if I want it to.
Works fine for me ☺

ok - Ill have to try it again as that wasnt my experience yesterday. I have a harmony hub + sonos + echo also so Yonomi would be the obvious choice but only if it works for all without my phone having to be present (or even on). if it works as you say it should then smartthings is not even required (yet!)

Does Yonomi work with Z-Wave and Zigbee technology like the Smartthings hub does?

at the bottom of the 'general Q&A' it says that it works only via a 'wink hub'

i think there is a misunderstanding of what Smartthings does. yomomi will carry out actions based on triggers. Smartthings does a lot more than that. Smartthings can provide triggers to Yomomi as can.other bits of hardware. Yonomi cannot provide its own triggers - it doesn't monitor things like switches or sensors. To be honest I wasnt that impressed with Yomomi. I still prefer using Alexa and Smartthings.

Yonomi is a software application so you still need a hub in situ to communicate with Zigbee / Zwave hardware.
