its cheap alright......only real bad point is the weird angle the lens is at....feels like your pointing at the floor, it messes with your head :-)

fantastic camera for the price, but if you want to film the kids and keep the recordings as a personal treasure. I would recommend spending (if you can) an amount that will get you something with optical image stabilising, this will increase the quality of your filming by counteracting any jerky movements or filming while on the move ( I have the R10 the high def version of this and its only downside is its lack of optical stabilisation, its electronic stabilisation is rubbish),

Got one of these in 09 for about £100 (from argos). It is a good camera if you just want to record the kids parties, hols etc. It's light, the battery lasts well, the sound is decent. Overall a good buy.The only things I can fault it on is:1, the funny angle of lens (as posted earlier)2, getting the actual footage onto a DVD??? It's a ****!Now I know someone is going to say "why do you want a dvd"? Well we had some of our old digital tapes converted by someone off e-bay and they came out brilliantly and we wanted to do the same with the mem cards from the samsung but the company wouldn't do it! They said that the format they use on this camera is not easy to work with and after searching google they seem to be right. It IS possible so don't poo-poo this camera straight off but just be aware of that issue. But for £50 ish it's a steal.

I use a program called convertXtoDVD seems to handle most footage.

H.264 format is standard format you just the right software to view it...for playback GOM or VLC players are free and can be downloaded from download.com (owned by cnet)...for burning im sure nero would work

and you PAID someone to converted your old digital tapes...bet that wasnt cheap...wouldnt it have been cheaper to a buy a camcorder off ebay.....bought a 10 year old dv camcorder off ebay for £50 and converted 25ish tapes to dvd/stored on hard disk...took a while but just left it running....i can if i want resell the camcorder for at least what i paid for it...so i did this free, though i may keep it and sell my old faulty one for spares/repair

You don't need a Paypal account to pay via Paypal, so it's as easy as any other online payment via card.

Have to agree I also have the R10 and lack of optical stabiliser lets it down (electronic stabilser can be seen struggling to cope as you move it especially when zoomed in).
But its still a good camera and I wouldn't entirely rule it out for a decent price. It does fairly well in low light much better than I originally thought it would and for normal use indoor picture quality is actually quite good.

Hi guys
A quick question for anyone who bought this deal - anyone noticed an annoying background noise - like modem sound - seems to be when recording in silent, or at least very quiet, situations? I've found reference to it on a review online, but surprised that people aren't finding it more annoying. Thinking of returning it - any feedback (excuse the pun) would be appreciated!
