>- 667GB Formatted Capacity Per Disk

I assume they mean "per platter" and there are 3 platters.

Still £63.44 + shipping, which many will find a way to get free
at (long weekend) Scan 'Today only' from Fri 17th...
"TodayOnly will next update Tuesday, 21st December at approximately 2pm. "
http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/
Then look down the page for:
2TB Samsung HD204UI/Z4, SpinPoint EcoGreen F4EG SATA 3Gb/s, 32MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ
@ £63.44 (normally £67+)

Good price for a high capacity storage drive

Is this suitable for a new Sky HD box?

i read somewhere on here about these needing a firmware upgrade before using them. is this still the case, or will this have it done already??

something about them loosing data.

the problem with the scan deal is, that you have to wait 30days, before being eligible for the free delivery. or have i read that wrong

Make 20 posts and wait 7 days. The scan one will come around again soon enough, although there is the VAT rise to contend with.

Most important info is missing - RPM? <7200 = slow cack.

The patch tool only released a few days ago, so you probably need to do the firmware flash, it should be easy the only thing is it requires a desktop to connect the drive with sata port. It is safe to use the drive when you disable write cashing in the drive policies (this will be the default option if connect through a usb external enclosure). If you are talking about Scan free delivery for Avforums members, the requirements are 1 week registration and 20 posts.

Total rubbish. The data density of the platter makes a huge difference to transfer rate.

As alasrati says, the data density plays a big role as well and this has the highest data density of all drives. As a result it beats many 7200 RPM drives. It's not the fastest drive but it is fast enough and very low energy consumption and high expected reliability.

There's always one.

I bought this drive.
I have a WD Elements external drive which had a 1TB drive in it full of DivX movies...
I took the 1TB WD drive out, and fitted the Samsung 2TB drive into the WD Elements enclosure..
Formatted with FAT32, moved all data onto drive.....
I now find that when watchin movies through my PS3 from this drive, the movies sometimes freeze or go nuts playing really fast, or get blocky picture......

To me, thats either the drive cant spin at a consistent speed to run the movie....
Doubtful the enclosure doesnt like 2TB disks....
#16
It's probably the enclosure not playing nicely with the drive. It will probably have WD specific firmware for spinning up and spinning down the drive.

The drive itself is more than capable of streaming HD content. It could stream 5 Blu Ray quality files at once without breaking a sweat.

very nice drive

A platter is a disk. This is a disk drive...

Had same issue yesterday. If you look here it says under free delivery:

FREE Delivery Promotion
At Novatech we're always trying to bring you the best possible service, which is why we're offering FREE delivery! As long as your total order value of goods is over £50.00 inc vat and under 30kg in weight then you will qualify for this offer!
Offer is not valid on any TVs.

This must qualify on both counts surely.

Well I went for the £3 delivery option and it arrived today (2 days). I used Quidco which should cancel out the delivery charge, so I'm satisfied (would have been even better with free delivery though). Will be getting a couple more of these drives in the future to RAID.

Not total rubbish, Mr clueless. RPM = proportional to latency, and how long it takes to get to data. No way around that. Most disk use is Random access, so latency is very important.

And anyway these disks are crap and corrupt data inherrently. Just search Google.
