Heat added but a quick question. Is there available a 1TB hard drive?! I've filled my 500gb and dont wanna faff around with an external one. The problem I know is that most 1TB drives are too big or is it small to fit
#6
free postage for me anyway!

also free to pick up as well.

No 1 TB drives are currently available that fit the PS3.

And soon its this years round of drives; 500GB/platter, wait until about May and there will be a 9.5mm 1TB drive.

This drive is the 2009 range of drives with 250GB/platter.

That is not the standard size 2.5" its the largely uncompatible 12.5mm drive.

you can use them in macbooks I think but not much else.
#12
woww :) what a good price. i'm very tempted although i don't play my ps3 enough to use it
#13
Thanks Tezmo but that's too big. Anthonyuk I think I understand that cheers :)

correct on all counts. For what its worth they are confirmed to fit in the zotac zbox, which is where I might put one for my xbmc setup.

Just ordered to upgrade my ps3 from 120GB to 500GB :)
#16
Hot. Ordered to go into a 2.5" USB enclosure, replacing the 250gb drive I currently have in there, so that can, in turn, go into my PS3. Upgrades all round!
#17
I thought the latest firmware currently prevented you from upgrading your hard drive.

I believe that was just a bug and quickly fixed by Sony.

There would be an absolute uproar if Sony officially removed support for your own hard drives, look at what happened with Linux, this would be much worse.

Just wondering. My PS3 is an old fat one with 80GB. If I was to replace the HDD, I'd have to back up my stuff on an external hard drive first. I already have a 500GB external HDD (format FAT32) with some stuff on it. Can I use this to back up my PS3 stuff without deleting anything off the external HDD or do I need a completely new or empty external HDD?

Please can you tell me in a private message so I know whether to buy a new external hard drive or just use the same one I have now

i believe the biggest you can get for a PS3 at the moment is the WD 750gb.

Then you did it wrong :)

Can you change the HDD without updating the software version? I'm on 3.55 and would like it to stay that way.

And is there a guide to do this?

This is only a couple of quid cheaper than other online stores. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172258

This deal is £38.38 inc next day delivery (if you don't get free postage). Ebuyer is £43.48 with 5 day delivery, or £47.48 with next day...

Hot price but I won't order from Scam after the ever thing they sent me was very, very used (graphics card). They refused to refund me so I sold it on Ebay and made a bit more than I'd paid as it was on offer at the time. That was the first and last time I will ever buy from Scam again.

I'm probably being a retard here, but I can't get the free delivery (I'm an AV forum member but can't see anywhere to enter my details)??

It says on the AV forums you have to have been a member for a week and have 20 posts...

If your backup drive is big enough you can back up everything including games and demos.

Agreed - I received an email confirming my order instantly, then literally about 5 minutes later another email saying it had been dispatched!

This morning I woke up to a text saying "your parcel is expected to arrive between 8.11 and 9.11am" (oddly specific). Sure enough, it arrived at about 8.19 (give or take a few milliseconds).

Can't fault the service from Scan at all. Top marks.

Mine came today as well - also ordered a cheap caddy for it and ordered a £20 heatsink they had on special for £5.99 at the same time.

Ive ordered from Scan numerous times and the fact they use DPD to deliver is a big plus point for me.
