£3.99 next day delivery. I’m not sure that it can be guaranteed however.
#3
free supersaver delivery (ok if you're not in a hurry) if you spend another 4 pounds and a penny.

Has this drive been effected by any 3.50 or 3.55 updates, i read on a few forums that a few people were complaining about certain hard drives that had, stopped working after they updated.

Just curious?

That sounds worrying. I’ve not heard of this issue.

Would appreciate links to where these issues are discussed, if anyone knows. Cheers.

Coming up as £45.99... With what appears to be a compulsory £3.99 P&P charge whether you have it Next Day or within 5 days... Either way totals at £49.98... Extra £1 off... A-Woo-Hoo!

I think the update stops 3rd party USB devices from working. Maybe they were using this Hard Drive as an external drive? I've got this in my PS3 Slim and no problems.

You take out your existing drive from your PS3 and insert it into the caddy. The caddy with the old PS3 disc in, now becomes an external USB drive. The new 640GB drive goes into your PS3.

That way you’re still making use of the old drive as a portable external USB drive.

I doubt it and some places are even charging the higher rate of VAT already, e.g. Amazon.

a) you'll be putting a smaller drive (taken from your PS3) in it
b) the spec was probably written before 640gb drives came out

:)

I have seen ready made cheaper with long warranty, i.e I can get this for £47 with 5 years warranty http://www.scan.co.uk/products/640gb-dane-elec-so-mb4640-usb2-25-external-hard-disk-drive-inc-software!

But does anyone know where to find out what model of drive is inside the ready made ones so I can work out if it would work swapping with the PS3 internal?

As with most things that are electronic, the price will eventually come down.

It already has though, that's the point, I bought one of these in August from Ebuyer for less than this, it's just that the demand for HDD's is slightly higher than normal at the moment so it's pushing the prices up temporarily.

Correct, it just means those 1TB drives which are slightly larger in physical size and such won't work.

Shame really because I hate powering standalone HDD's from the mains now, it seems like such overkill and a bit outdated.

Is that for the drive only? or do you get the caddy included in that price?

Whatever you do, transfer your save games off before putting in the new one!

Obvious I know, but I was so keen to get the new one I thought I could maybe connect the old PS3 hard drive to my laptop via a caddy and get the saves off that way. What windows did was mess with the MBL and couldnt read from it anyway, and then the PS3 didnt recognise it when I tried connecting again.

Absolutly gutted, this happened a few weeks ago and I'm still not over it, I was well through a game of fallout new vegas at the time :(

try running some forensics tools against the drive - if the data is still on there it should be straight forward to get it back.

i would recommend using Encase :)

So far, there has been no way of reading any of the information, from a PS3 HDD, on any other device.

unless your ps3 is jailbroken. im sure u can plug the old external into it via usb, and ftp into the console from your pc and recover your save games.

Just formatted it:

Right click computer, manage, disk management, initialise disk, format NTFS (FAT32 not there just exFAT), not sure it 640gb can be done in FAT32?
Anyways this is 596GB when NTFS formatted.
However this drive, DOES NEED the Y-USB CABLE (two usb connections), for the extra power, when I only connected the first USB it DID NOT WORK
It needs two usb connections to work to get the extra juice from your desktop/laptop etc.

Has anyone bought this and managed to copy data, saves etc. from their old PS3 drive to it? How is it working for you? And how useful is the old drive in the caddy?

Am seriously tempted to get this but just wondering how I move the stuff over from my PS3 Fat's old drive, plus people seem to think it will get cheaper again...

Cheers

Easier if you have a PC. Use the PS3 backup utility to backup onto your new 640gb HDD, installed in caddy. then move to PC. Install 640Gb in PS3. Then use old PS3 HDD in caddy to move backup from Pc. Then old Hdd to Ps3.

OK. Shame you can't just backup from the old drive to the new one in the caddy, then put that new drive straight into PS3 and have it work from there.

I have a 1TB WD USB drive, could I backup to that and then restore from that to the new drive? That might save some time, I could do that before I get the new drive.
