Pretty good deal for a 500gb SATA-2 drive.
Good alternative to the WD drive posted yesterday if like me you've had bad experiences with WD drives.

Hi Mr_E, welcome to HUKD. I have updated the above post to include the delivery charge :)

Thanks for posting!
You are not alone Mr_E, I've had bad experiences with WD drives too. Their customer service is slow too.
in my experience, the current WD drives are almost as bad as the old IBM Deathstars of a few years back, and WD could learn about CS from the likes of Seagate. It's well worth the slight price difference over the WD drive already posted.

Samsung have the added advantage of being one of the more silent hard disk; great price, thanks.
I've not had enough experience with WD in the reliability stakes and it seems to me you'll never get a conclusive answer on which is the most reliable, though I'm sure a lot of people would say Maxtor's have been the worst in the past year or so. Anyway, I can certainly vouch for both the Samsung's and the WD drives as being quiet and in fact the 500GB WD drive seems to come out on top according to the most authoritative website on the subject. I'd take a risk on the WD because a quiet HD is very important to me but then I also wouldn't rely on any single hard drive for all my data.
Welcome to HotUKDeals Mr_E and Thanks for your first post :)
No drives are as bad as the IBM Deathstars, they were just simply awful in design, performance and reliability. They ruined IBMs reputation in the drive stakes and Hitachi bought them out. Also, the new WD SE drives have been very reliable for the people I know who own them. If they were as bad as the deathstars, WD would be more or less finished by now, and considering they ship the second highest amount of drives, you are bound to get a few unreliable drives. Though, it shouldn't matter if a drive fails, as you should always back up data to another drive and another form of media, ideally DVDs.
