This is about bang on budget for me.

Am I likely to find anything better for this sort of price?

Is the 'was £279.99' a bit inflated?

Looking on the net at images one could be forgiven for thinking they were exactly the same cameras, they are almost identical!

Saw one of these in both my locals (Charlton and Old Kent Road stores) on Saturday so they're probably around most places.

Can't be a good sign when I can't find a "proper" review, from a dedicated camera/review site within the first page of google results!

If this samsung is anything like any of the other samsung cameras I used to sell when i worked for currys a couple of yrs back i'd avoid them, as the build quality is appauling - so many returned. If you can afford the little bit extra i'd get a Pannasonic everytime - much better cameras.
#12
Avoid! This is a DSG (Currys, PC World, Dixons, Pixmania) exclusive. hence why it "was 279.99" bet they sold 1 or 2 in the period it was at that price

I'd take a look at Panasonic ahead of this or at least make a comparison. £100 buys you a lot of camera these days and Panasonic are a cut above the rest without charging a premium.

I don't know this Samsung but the one I had a couple of years back had a really annoying control menu and was nothing special as a camera.

DSG original prices are pretty meaningless, especially if it's an exclusive as suggested by Nad_84, and that one is ridiculous!

asking £199.99 for refurbs on eBay with 3 months warranty !!! - sounds a good deal to me...

DSG Exclusive model, Avoid!

Awesome price but the lens aint great on these, I was gonna get the ST150 and ended up buying a canon. Very good price though for a point and shoot!! :D

I don't want to get ripped off or be the victim of some clever marketing here so what I really want to know is - is the camera any good or not?! With it being a DSG exclusive, I take the point that its difficult to get an independent review and a basis for comparison, but does that necessarily mean the product isn't very good?

Do DSG exclusives tend to not be very good? Is that the reason for the negative sentiment or are people simply wary for the other reasons outlined above?

I took this tip on board and had a look at the Ebay Argos Outlet. Last week the LUMIX DMCFX40 was £119 + £3.99 delivery.

Now it's £99 + £3.99 delivery, which seemed a good deal to me, so I bought one as a gift.
