Play.com have the Samsung Steel L810v on Vodafone pay as you go for just £69.99 with free delivery and 4% QuidCo, if you wish to use that. The phone is £100 on Vodafone's website and £99.99 at Prepay Mania, so this is a great reduction.

Samsung continues to shake up the phone industry with the new Samsung Steel, exclusive to Vodafone. With a design similar to the Samsung Soul, the Samsung Steel has a sleek silver body in a brushed metallic finish and has a dazzling TFT screen capable of displaying an array of 16 million colours. Its powerful HSDPA functionality gives fast net access in the palm of your hand whilst also offering WAP 2.0, xHTML and HTML. On the rear of the phone you will notice the integrated 3.15 MP camera of the Steel providing, autofocus, image stabilising abilities and even picture editing. Over all the steel proves to be yet another winner for Samsung.

when you say the bay, do you mean 'pirate' or 'E'?

I'm quite tempted to get this, but have got a couple of questions.

Are the buttons touch sensitive or normal?
I've currently got the Samsung D900, so this wouldn't really be much of an upgrade would it?
What's the sound quality like? The reason I'm looking at changing phones is because the sound quality on my D900 isn't very good. It is a couple of years old though.

I'd be very grateful if somebody could answer those questions for me. Thanks.

That's odd, it's normally 20 pounds to unlock a Vodafone pay as you go phone less than 12 months old.

Does anyone know how this phone compares to a Samsung G600 please?

That was my understanding to. Apparently the "trick" is to put a contract Voda sim in (find a friend time). Then when you call them they will then definately unlock for free. If you get asked why you can claim it is for a roaming sim that gives cheap holiday calls to avoid getting put through to contract retentions ;-)

yes if you are a payg voda customer you will have to pay to unlock they will only unlock free if you are a contract customer as you are tied in to the deal and will have to pay which ever sim you put in phone!

what is wrong with this phone?

I was thinking about CEX, if in case Voda refuse to unlock it!

[CEX buys only for £20!!!]

Just got a Samsung J700 on a new (12 month free) contract. The camera on this L810v is much better, would it be worth selling mine and getting this, would may be cost £30 or so to do it?

Can't find much in the way of reviews for it.

My wife has this phone and the sound is great from what I can hear when it is in her handbag etc and that applies to both ringtones and message tones but she dont really use it to listen to music so not sure what that is like but she has not complained about the sound quality or the phone in general for that matter and likes it a lot.

Hope this helps.

hi, i got the phone from prepay mania 2 weeks ago.

its a decent phone, i paid for unlocking on ebay.

buttons are not touch sensitive, and the phone has a solid build.

it's a decent phone for a good price.
#27
Thanks for the advice.

Not surprised if the price changes. Play.com have been doing a lot of that on an HP all in one printer, with a lot of unhappy customers.
Look here

Make sure they actually send it to you, and not just take the money from your account only to refund it later and say it was mis priced and order cancelled...:whistling:

Does this have flash on the camera? I've read some places that it does, and some places that it doesn't.

It doesn't look like it has a flash from the pictures in the second post, and I have read a review that says there is no flash but there is auto focus
#33
I cannot believe so many people are continuing to trust play with their money - after the recent HP Printer fiasco. I will think long and hard before buying from play again - seems to be a false economy.

They say they unlock PAYT mobile phone for free only if the phone is over 12 months old (by checking their IMEI database). if the phone is under 12 months old, there's a charge of £19.99 to unlock it.

So I don't see why these phones from Play.com can be unlocked for free as said in the title???

Will this phone work on 3 if unlocked? cheers
