Helpful video review here. Mac orientated but still a good tour.

Seriously considering now.

What's the weird knob/button on the front? Edit: Nevermind, it's a rotating on/off knob.
Good price!
#6
Silly question maybe but if I have a PC and Mac i want to connect to this drive will it work with both? Or will I need to format it for one or the other?
#7
It is a strange Hard Drive. I have one, and the knob at the front doesnt click on and off. It just keeps rotating; which can be very annoying. Otherwise its ok, but makes a lot of nosie.

Anyone using this as a proper usb drive and pushing/pulling data off it and not as a backup device, only I'm after a usb drive for my Satellite system to save HD recordings?

is good, no?

its a good buy what im saying is theres lots of thing you can post because of the voucher, the original price of £84.99 is the average now for 1.5tb.
example its £84.96 off amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002C3S6V8/ref=nosim/?tag=hotukdeals-21 so only a good deal due to voucher. My advice if you need a cheap 1.5tb external hard drive go for this.
#17
Thanks edi picked one up for some extra backup space, have 4tb to backup!

You don't need 1.5TB surely! My HD pvr has 320GB and even that's about 4 days of HD.

I believe later MAC OS's can read NTFS (the common Windows drive formatting standard since Windows XP) as standard and also write if you install an NTFS for MAC driver.

Alternatively you can install something like MACdrive on your PC to read the drive if you format it in HFS+ on the MAC. (Dunno if the PC can also write).

If you format the drive as FAT32 there should be no compatibility issues, though you may need to use a 3rd party software if formatting from Windows like http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/index.html , as there are restrictions in Windows on formatting removable devices over a certain size with FAT32. Individual files over 4GB is size cannot be addressed with FAT32.

Try code: PLANW09
Worked OK for me.

I have one of these, bought it at £89

After 2 days it wouldnt boot up/light up, i called up Samsung and they said i had to send the whole unit back, annoying! They wouldnt just send me a replacement PSU, they would only accept the whole unit. And it would be replaced so the data on there is gone (luckily hadnt deleted the data from the other disks).
I bought a replacement PSU from ebay which i thought would be cheaper/more convenient, but it turns out its the internal power circuit which broke. So had to send the whole unit back and get a new sealed replacement.

Pretty lame, but the replacement has worked with no problems for a month now, almost silent, and good looking. Would have no problems recommending it if the first one hadnt broken down.

yours is broken, mine does click on and off

Had the exact same issue with a Lacie. PSU failed , DABS said I had to send whole unit back for replacement even though I knew it was the PSU as it worked with another LAcie PSU I had.

Didn't bother sending it back. Still switch PSU between drives. Not bought a Lacie drive or from DABS since. There loss and my inconvenience!

What drive is used internally? A 7200 or 5400 as i would prefer the 5400, more efficient especially as it would need to be accessed 24/7 as attached to a media server I have.
#30
5400 I believe.
