price is good but just bought a 24" dell

Read review here. Sounds like a competent mid-range monitor, which doesn't really excel, but then, it is good for price.

BTW, what is in the box?

2 points:

* You say it works in landscape mode or portrait but the review Kommunist links to specifically says that it does not pivot to portrait mode: "Also missing is the pivot function, so if you’re keen on working in a portrait format, this isn’t the screen for you." Which is correct? I really need a portrait monitor because I work with text a lot.

* Also worth noting that delivery is basically free - £5.99, but the extra 3% from quidco for not collecting it yourself is just over £6

Just read another review (in Russian). They also say there is no portrait mode. Hight adjustment is 65 to 145 mm. There is no RTC in this monitor, so measured response time is as follows:
Max: 23.8 ms
Avg: 13.3 ms (GtG)
Min: 7.8 ms (BtW)

Measured contrast ratio is ~250 cd/m2

Here is response time graph (vertical axis: response time, left axis is "from" and right one is "to" on grayscale)

http://www.fcenter.ru/img/article/monitors/20_and_21_LCD_2/89585.gif

Their verdict: very good monitor for office and non-so-demanding home users. Much better than BenQ FP202W, Acer AL2017, Viewsonic VA2012w and even NEC LCD2070WNX.

Wow look at that graph! The Russians have all the fun :D

Well.. if you were after something which costs more than you earning in a month you'd like to know everything about it, won't you? :)

Guess it depends if you live in Moscow or out in the oblasts!

Not everyone in Moscow is getting good salary, unfortunately...

.
It depends. If it is claimed value then yes. it is slow. But it is measured rate, so it is OK for this kind of monitor. There is no RTC, remeber? :)

I do have these monitors, well 2 of them in fact, and they are really good, XBO360 DVDS perfect.
SAMSUNG LCD
SAMSUNG LCD 1

It is true they do not Pivot.

Also Manual and website states 6ms
SAMSUNG LCD SPECS

The previous model to this was 25ms.

Not sure if this is the place to mention it but isnt the ebuyer one (20" £150) better value. Could someone give me a review if they know of it?

PS Should I post that as an deal in the forum?

The ebuyer one has been posted herebefore anyway. I feel that they are a different class of monitors though, the samsung would be higher quality IMHO. Plus it is a widescreen, which is becoming a it of a selling point these days. I think it has a better spec than the Videoseven as well. But it all depends on what you're looking for, and how much you want to spend... the decision is yours:)

Welcome to the HotUKDeals forums :)

This monitor is in different league to Samsung. Also, a bit cheaper at Savastore if you OK with 2 weeks wait.
#17
hmmm thanks guys. OK am umming and ahhhing between the 2. The main use will be for movies (watching at a distance) and the odd bit of gaming. The whole pivot thing doesnt bother me but could someone confirm the response time? There is quite a difference between 6ms and 25ms. Thanks in advance and thanks for the welcome

I guess the easiest thing will be to visit your local PC World and take a look at the spec? ;)

What and leave the comfort of my computer!? How very retro. How very quaint. Point taken. Will be interrogating some poor PCWorld employee in the morning light.

Thanks

It came with a DVI cable and a DSUB cable I have just set it up to run Battlefield 2 at 1680 x 1050 took a bit of fiddling around but it looks amazing.Response is not 25ms its 6ms.Though it does not pivot 90 degrees as earlier suggested. Ive tried lcd in the past and gone back to crt but this looks like a keeper....

Could you do me a favor and measure how big the actual viewable area of the screen is from to to bottom and left to right. As the 20" is measured diagonal. Thanks :-D I have a 19" and i wanna see how much i would be losing.

I took the spec sheet in with me from samsungs website and the pc world chappy after slight resistance changed the signs from 25ms to 6ms and 400:1 to 700:1 contrast ratio. So just asking them questions may not result and the correct answers....good luck
[admin]#27
It's so funny they would resist at all a1!! I mean really it's better for them!

If your looking for a 20" LCD screen. Maybe hold out as Dell just announced a new budget 20" screen. Stock is ment to available "immediately". RRP is $289. Could be worth waiting

#29
Yeah that dell looks sweet, but no doubt it'll have a much higher price tag when it arrives here.
#30
I'd expect it to be here at 200 quid. :(
#31
This monitor is future proof because it supports HDCP on DVI.

Could I just point out that I am using a 15" Samsung Syncmaster at present (vga cable connected) I then upgraded to the Acer 19" AL1916w or whatever it is, and that too was via VGA and am now back to this the Samsung 15" for the time being and I must say that the colours on the Samsung blow the Acer away, and both were through VGA. You really can tell the difference, I just need to look at the blue internet explorer bar across the top of the screen to see how blue this Samsung really is.

At first I thought the Acer was great, but once the wow factor wore off (size) then I realised that the colours were really washed out. Not a bad monitor for what I paid for it but not a patch on this Samsung.

Samsung make brilliant monitors, they used to be expensive, but then again you get what you pay for.

Can't really comment on todays models, but if what I am looking at has anything to go buy then they are worth a look at least.
#38
Now £199.99 :)
