voted hot as 1ms response time. For that price with 4k it's actually alright but still a limited market.

How can it display 4K without a d-dvi port?

Or does the DisplayPort know some witchcraft?

You don't want to use dvi for 4k because your limited to 30hz, even with dual link.

You need to use displayport 1.4 to use the monitors full res and to get 60hz.

Display Port is the king of display inputs :)

That Samsung's own marketing I read there, or a confirmed, measured (Leo Bodnar test) time? If it's Samsung, it's worth zilch.

Do you really need this?

Nope, you could stick with VGA resolution if you like.

Once you have used 4k it becomes the norm and other screens seem lacking. Hot from me.

I've seen the 4k ones in Currys but how many computers and software can actually produce a 4k picture?

its fine if your into 4k video editing (is that a thing) but for most of the world I think they would stick to vga or even upgrade to an hdmi graphics card if they feel like living on the edge.

vga is legacy connector for many. DVI is also legacy. Hdmi will stay for tv connection but its Display port that is the king. Display port is at rev 1.2

As for applications, yes many do support it even for office work a 4k screeen is useful. i'd prefer it for photoshop and 3d editing,

you mean display port 1.2 (1.4 isn't out). DP 1.4 will support multistream 4k displays or a 8k display .

Any PC should be able to render the desktop in 4K. Pretty much all games support 4K on the PC and they look absolutely stunning although you need a monster graphics card to get playable frame rates. Still it's something current consoles will ever be able to do and I'm hoping next gen graphics cards will have this in mind. Also, photo editing is pretty good too - you're basically able to look at an 8MP image at full size!
