This price really does highlight what good value an Xbox One S is...

Just buy an Xbox one

as I understand it the xbox one doesn't support dolby atmos or I think the new DTS X.
New HDR blu rays use dolby atmos which is a great addition to the normal soundtrack.
The samsung does support atmos

It's a dedicated blu-ray player not a console. As much as I appreciate the value that Xbox One is, it doesn't do HD sound, neither does it do Dolby Atmos/DTSX. And I assume the quality of components is much better...

Because you can buy an Xbox one for around this price and some places, cheaper... updates also mean it'll be upto scratch as a 4K BR player in the near future.

A capable UHD Blu-ray player, but not the best.

The good-

Speedy loading
Sharp pictures
Most affordable UHD Blu-ray player on the market

The bad
Sound and picture need refinement
No display
Fiddly remote

Sony are such idiots for not putting a uhd drive in the PS4Pro. I was ready to spend £4-500 on what should have been the ultimate home theatre hub. Instead I'm now gonna get an Xbox s (once atmos ready) or better yet, Scorpio. What Sony have done is sent me straight to their competition which I had zero interest in buying in to. Sorry for the rant. have some heat as compensation:)

But it's coming? Common sense tells me I can wait if it 1)saves cash 2) gives me extras (a games console!) this is cold and looking at the temp... that's a fact lol:{

This is better than the xbox one, better smoother images not just the sound codecs, also what hi listed the remote as a fiddly its just small and works fine, no display neither does xbox, was also being compared at launch to a £600 panasonic only other player on market at time.
Firmware been updated few times now since launch and runs with no issues, i have not seen it side by side with the panasonic but best images i have even seen! I do have xbox one and think this edges it but not by much, xbox great machine

Ignoring hdr for a min when i watched first movie didnt think was a massive leap forward, after had watched 2 or 3 then went back to blu ray different story

I paid 270 from memory with 3 free movies

dunno why people keep comparing blu-ray players and consoles. it a standalone player that is designed to play blu-rays and nothing else.
Its like comparing phones with DSLR cameras. "I can take pictures on my phone too, but I can also make phone calls, browse wed and listed to music, can you dlsr do that? but my iphone is the same price or even cheaper". Are they going to take the same photos? hell no!

Just bought one of these from Richer Sounds for £130 including 3 UHD films (Revenant, Martian, Independence day) - special half-price deal if you buy a Samsung TV. it's OK but nothing special, to be honest, apart from the SUHD/4K playback capability.

Should be less than 100 to ensure better sales at this price it doesn't interest me right now.

If you were willing to spend £500 why not buy both consoles?

I'm primarily a PC gamer hence no real interest in needing an Xbox. The Playstation exclusive titles have a far bigger draw for me. I still only have a ps3 which has be Rd North great as a console/bluray player/smart hub duties. I don't want the clutter of 2 consoles. What I wanted from the PS4PRO was a high end, up-to-date version of what my ps3 gives me. I get not everyone wants all the above but Sony are usually at the forefront of new tech so it makes no sense for them not to at least offer a uhd player option.
