Not exactly comparable as the xbox one S still hasn't got uncompressed audio pass through despite promises from MS so no Atmos of DTS:X yet, a standalone player will come with a remote, it will be quieter, use less electric whilst in use and will probably give better picture quality.

The Xbox One Does have Audio pass through and supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio

The Xbox One S also came out the better Ultra HD Blu-ray player on Techradar against the Samsung, with the Samsung negatives as having a Journeyman build quality, Noisy and not a great sounding music player.

And you can be pretty sure that Microsoft will also keep the console up to date for things like Netflix, Amazon, iPlayer etc whilst my experience with standalone devices from all the electronics companies is the exact opposite.

*especially* Samsung, who basically don't give a rats ass about updates once you own it and it's passed 6 months old...

If this is what you've been after then this is a very good deal. I can't find it cheaper.
Heat added.
....now if someone can come up with a deal for the new Sony UPB X800 (I have quite a few SACDs) then I'd be very interested.
Thanks for posting.

Despite this 'underwhelming tech' performing better in one of it's secondary functions that this product in it's primary function?

I would also buy the xbox but could someone explain why this machine is not good? I am mostly interested in the picture and not on the sound side, does the xbox display any better picture than this?
thanks

It's not, 'not good' as such, but the xbox is *at least* as good a player in itself, costs the same (if not less if you look around...), and reviews indicate it has better picture quality and far extended functionality (did you know it even plays games???). It also has, and continues to receive updates that improves its functionality, ie the recent addition of audio passthrough etc...

Good thing about the decent BD Player is that there is no jumbo jet taking off in the background when watching a movie without earphones. If you also wanna play games buy a more powerful console! ;k
