My friend has an older Samsung and he can play MKV files from the USB. He's been using Sandisk cruser blades (several deals posted on here) and a micro Sandisk one. Don't think you need a particularly good usb stick.

Not even using a Stick, I was using external HDD's on mine, granted, abit slow browsing the the files, but once loaded it was fine

I'm using a stick on it, kingston, as in recent deal here.
Also plays flv !
Colours are bit of a challenge to get right, nearly got there.
HD superb, SD not as good as plasma.
Had mine a month. Quite pleased, but would have preferred a plasma.

all the 2012 models are coming down in price now been waiting for prices to drop

i have the ES5500 version of this tv, with an external HD attached with all my movies (wide variety from very old divx to new mkv) and it play everything.
Agree with johnnymoe browsing is a little slow (slower than my old C580 this tv replaced) but with clever folder structures you can make it work

"Thank you Faythur". Ordered from Laskys for some 3% Quidco, delivering next Tuesday. Trying to avoid buying from a certain global organisation that has over £3 billion annual UK turnover but avoids paying a single penny of UK Corporation Tax.

I'm only using the usb port on the TV for the time being until I get around to layout out my network at home, then gonna be using raspberry pi's for this job :)

I have this tv picture is fantastic best thing I ever bought

In the 2nd pic on Amazon there are some icons under 'This Morning'. Does anyone know of an online guide that explains what each one means as some of them still puzzle me on my Samsung TV?

Heat added. I have this TV .. it is excellent imo ... (brought it when it was circa £400 from Amazon) I have added some external speakers to improve the sound quality - common issue with most (if not all) flat screen TV's ... great buy at this reduced price.

Only 1 minor negative I wish it could record as well as play via the USB ports .. I know some of the mid / high range Sony TV's
can do that.

Thanks, needed a TV for my new house. Was hoping to spend around £400 on a decent TV so this fits the bill and saves me some money :)

You replaced a C580 with the ES5500!? I have a C580 and its picture is still better as far as I can tell.

How much tax does Laskys pay?

I think I read somewhere it's 16 mil sec, but not 100% sure.

Resist the urge. If you don't need it now, what's the point ? The nature of the beast with technology is that you will invariably get something with better spec for your money if you can wait.

Depends on your preference and what you watch... I would say LED, Plasma, LCD but some may say Plasma, LED, LCD...

Plasma best I say, especially with SD pictures - much more natural colour etc all round.
However not sure you can buy plasmas anymore under 42" size.....

Also, lots of LED lit TVs can have problems with backlight bleed and clouding - unfortunately Samsung seem to be at the top of the pile here :(

I thought only older sets were affected, but just found this on this particular model [it's a bit 'pidgeon' english]
