Great spot! Time to upgrade my WB500 which has been excellent, if a little bulky.

My advice is to save your money! I purchased on of these (W600) at Christmas from Argos 149 down from 299, only had it for two days and took it back. Although you get x15 zoom the picture quitlity is very poor. I exchanged for a Nikon.

I just sent a Nikon S9100 back because, although it had great picture quality, there seemed to be dust on the sensor as you get a funny mark on every picture in the same place. I'm tempted as this is nearly a third the price just for a point and shoot with a super zoom.

My experience with Samsung cameras (low to mid price range) has not been good. My advice is to avoid spending your money on them. In this price range, try Pentax Optio LS1100 instead. It's a very good camera and amazon is selling it at £70.44

I've owned a Samsung camera before, and can vouch for some of the guys on here.... The picture quality is very poor. I was shocked at how sh*t it was, so I'll never purchase another Samsung camera again. Even their phones such as the Galaxy S/2 have better cameras built in than their portable camera counterparts!!!

I've owned a Canon 550D DSLR and currently own a Sony Cyber-Shot TX9, which is tremendous, but expensive!!!

Eek! Ugliest looking camera ever. Only has 4x optical zoom too.

I've had a WB500 for a couple of years now and it's been great. Just a bit too bulky. If I had the money I would upgrade to this.

How is this £69.99? The link shows £89.99. 10% off makes it £81.99.

Oh, I get it, offer a high end product with a cheaper one to attract buyers at that price. Shrewddd

If you want the quality of output, then you would certainly know that Pentax cameras are far more superior than the ones made by Samsung. Also, a higher optical zoom does not always result in a better picture. As far as the looks of Pentax Optio LS1100 are concerned, it's a matter of choice. I have been using this camera for more than a year now and have bought 2 more to give as gifts!

Voted hot on price, picture quality was better than the Casio H10 that I was using, both in auto mode out of the box, etc....

The cameras you own are not in the same bracket, they're far "higher end", so any comparison is pointless. Of course budget cameras are going to offer less picture quality than a DSLR.

Now, compare the DSLR offerings from Samsung and you'll get [literally] a completely different picture altogether - very high quality. Same goes for their higher end compacts - e.g. EX1, amongst the leaders in picture quality and versatility (I own one as a second camera to my DSLR - its excellent).

Why do the numpty get on here and compare an inexpensive camera, to that of expensive one. Ok my Fuji mx1200 is ****, its 2x no optical zoom and cost me a ton, my samsung is 15x half the size and doesnt kill the battery.
The differance between the two 10years. Get my point

im tempted to move from my wb500 to a wb600, the wb500 has been fine for me and that cost me 150, but the 600 looks a bargain, with 15x zoom it will allow me stalk from further on the beach pmsl

I own this camera and have had it since near Launch.
Image quality has been good with it, it is a higher end model competing with the TZ8 from Panasonic.
Go check the review on DPReview (it refers to the GPS enabled WB650 version, identical otherwise) where it came out joint winner and scored higher then the Panasonic (which is usually considered a benchmark)

It is not an SLR and don't be silly comparing it to one. I use Both an SLR and while allowing for a compacts limitations, it is capable of doing a decent job.

If there are doubts on the image quality, then do come view them from someone that uses the camera.
I shall post links so anyone that is considering, has any doubts, they can decide themselves if they like the images or not.

I won't be arguing with anyone, I just want to let people see what the camera is capable of, if you like the images the way they have turned out, then that is good. if you dont, then that is up to you.
But in the end, no point going on about it, the proof is in the end result.

The current 2 best compact cameras on the markets are the Canon S95 & surprisingly Samsung WB2000 each retailing between £250-£300. I actually have them both as the reviews raved how great they both were so had to see myself. Lumix have gone down hill recently:(

Samsung, have stunning optics the best in there class and if your buying one of the premium cameras you will defiantly not be disappointed.

Canon 5Dmk2 user & Samsung WB2000 compact.

Says who? Samsung's own EX1 beats the WB2000 (love those dials!) in most respects, especially the lens, although the camera is bigger. The Canon S95 is apparently not even as good as it's predecessor, although a great camera, Where would you put the equiv Panasonics against the WB2000? Most would place them above it. Note that I don't have a WB2000 and I'm only going by reviews etc.

Its a shame Samsung haven't done a better job of marketing their cameras, they'd have won a lot more fans, and sales.

WHAT!!!???

Whilst samsung cameras are at best ok, the WB600 is in a different league to the pentax 1100 (which is rubbish anyway) - the wb600 and wb650 are the best point and shoots samsung make

the pentax doesnt have a wide angle lens for starters and a limited zoom

the pentax 1100 is NOT better sorry, you clearly know nothing about cameras

i tested the wb600 when looking for something cheap and small to take on a ski trip as i didnt want to take my canon dslr/pro lens.....i opted for the panasonic tz10 (mainly for video and half decent shots) and also used my wifes canon 980is (on slopes as it has a viewfinder as LCD screens are useless on slopes in bright sunlight)

the wb600 was good, but didnt like the menu system and it felt cheap, the canon 210 was nicer but i didnt like the pop flash, the sony hx5 was good and seemed the best made but lacked some features on the tz10 but was an excellent point and shoot camera

however £90 for the wb600 is excellent

dont think they were comparing the cameras.....anyway there are better cameras from other makes such as panasonic, sony, canon........but samsung cameras arent bad and for £90 this camera has more features than most will ever need....nothing else <£120 will come close

excellent buy

i'm always dreaming of getting such a camera for my travelling, maybe time is coming!

Slwika, I bought an MSI netbook for my mum not long ago, you keep tempting me :)

Advice, please? I have an ancient Fuji S5000 superzoom (I've lost count how old it is) and it does everything I want, great macro, 10x zoom, video is in mono but I never used that. The major downside is its size. It's SLR-shaped and I've got in trouble at gigs from security insisting it's the real thing. While everyone takes pics/records footage!

It's a little too cumbersome for slipping into a bag and a little weighty.

Obviously the WB600 is much more handbag-friendly to the S5000, and 12MP versus 3.2MP means I can blow up the pictures much more, but how do they compare image wise?

S5000 here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/FinePix-S5000-Digital-Camera-10xOptical/dp/B0000C6VNV/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t (someone even put a recent review on raving about it). http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B0000C6VNV/ref=cm_cr_pr_top_recent?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

OK - Ordered the TZ9 Lumix the other day, should I return it and get this, decisions, decisions! What is the better camera?
#32
I'm wondering if the HD camcorder side of it is any good. I know the reviews say it's not too hot, but I'm just back from a gig..and the footage from my Desire HD is muffled and not even that pretty to look at. Any feedback about sound quality/zoom/picture quality?

Image noise seems to get mentioned again and again in reviews. Does this happen in low light more often? Is it something that certain settings can minimise?

I have the WB500 and HD image quality is good. There is some sound on recordings from the zoom motor if it is used. The sound can also be a wee bit quiet but overall I'm quite satisfied.

Re the paypal code. I've already ordered from Argos Clearance and have the CUKARGSMAY for 10% discount code in my list on ebay.

When I try to add it, it says "This voucher is not valid for this item." Any idea why? :(

Can't see anything on the Help pages.
#35
I'll answer my own question. It seems to be things in this category only (for the paypal discount): http://everythingelse.shop.ebay.co.uk/Voucher-Promotions-/171984/i.html?_catref=1&_fln=1&_ssov=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282&LH_SpecificSeller=1..argos

Funnily enough, the WB500 is in there, at £109.99! So, can't grumble really.. :)
#36
Ah I just missed out on this deal...was reading reviews and didnt realise it would expire so soon. Anyone get theirs yet? Is it any good?
#37
Mine is due today..wish I had it a few days ago. Took video footage on my Desire HD when I saw Adam Ant on Monday and it was woeful.

Sorry you missed it :( It's went up by £40!!!
#38
I got this, as I bought my wife a WB550 18 months ago.
I've been impressed with the 550 and the video is better than I was expecting.
I thought the batteries would be the same, so we could share the spare ones.
However this takes the SLB-11A and the 550 the SLB-10A.
As far as I can tell they are the same physical size, but the 11A has an extra contact and is 3.8V vs 3.7V. It also has slightly more capacity (Ah). I think the external charger I have will charge both.
As I'm not sure whether camerawise they are interchangeable, I've ordered a couple of spares from 7dayshop for £2.99 each, and a case.
That aside, the camera appears excellent value for money and was indistinguishable from a brand new one.
I'm sure the 15X zoom will be very handy.
#39
Got mine today. Quick tinker with it to set date, switch video to PAL and do a quick video clip. Didn't come with a case (I'm a dunderheid expecting that as most cameras don't, have to order one) but everything was intact.

The camera had a few fingerprints but it looked as though it had been tested and put back in the box. Pristine otherwise. I'll give it a good test at the weekend.

Will be sad to see my Fuji S5000 go but it's too clunky and consipicuous for me, still takes great pictures.

I've seen the WB600 compared to the Lumix TZ7/8, so, hopefully, as that is a cracking camera (my friend has one). (For those who like those "versus" articles: http://snapsort.com/compare/Panasonic_Lumix_DMC-TZ8-vs-Samsung_WB600 and http://www.camera-catalog.com/compares/popular/panasonic_lumix_dmc-tz8_vs_samsung_wb600

Going to use the Samsung Class 2 8GB MicroSD which came with my mobile, hopefully it won't be too slow (and SD adapter).

Edit: This comparison photos thread is good too: http://www.avforums.com/forums/photo-sharing/1371754-panasonic-tz7-vs-samsung-wb600-test-shot-series.html

I ordered this one from 7dayshop
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=105775
It should fit according to the dimensions. £1.99 delivered.
Regarding memory, I'd recommend the Samsung MB-SP8GEU 8GB SDHC PLUS Class 6 at about £12 to £13.
Or you can get the 4GB or 16GB versions depending on your preference.

Edited By: Mark NS on May 27, 2011 18:37: Added memory info.
