Not sure what your requirements are but I thought I'd point out that as far as I can see these have no upscaling abilities, no HDMI, no optical in ports and are wired. Like I say it might not be important to you but to others it might make a difference.

The one below does have optical input but its more expensive but has great reviews. Also upscales DVD's to near blue-ray quality and has built in FM tuner.

I'm currently in the market for a home cinema system. However my knowledge is a bit lacking so would appreciate some help if poss. (rep will be duly given)

Looking to spend sub £100 (tho might stretch to £150).

We're not great film watchers in our house so I'm assuming that 5.1 will not be essential for us? So if that's the case would a typical £100 2.1 system give more "umph" for my buck than a typical £100 5.1 system?

We've recently got Sky+ HD and have a Samsung LCD TV. We watch a lot of football, general entertainment and music channels so are basically just looking for something to boost up the sound a bit.

We've already got a decent DVD player with optical connections so don't particually need a system that comes with another DVD player.

Can anyone recommend us a good system? I'm assuming one with optical and HDMI inputs would be better?

"Near Blu-ray quality" from upscaling a DVD, that just isn't possible.

I got a free service on my Samsung 37" TV a few weeks after the 12 month warranty had expired. They came out and replaced the main board.

Yeah you'll get better sound from the SkyHD if you use optical in.

Agree, I've seen the panny in action. Its good, real good, but the clarity of the upscaled dvd is no where near that of even a curtis blu ray player imo (at 1080p, 720p the difference would probably be closer)

Am I right in thinking that Dolby Pro Logic II is not a 'true' 5.1 system though as it only mixes the audio channels and is a virtual surround sound using only 2 distinct signals (eg left and right) rather than a system with Dolby Digital or DTS which send distinct signals to each of the 5 speakers? So would this explain lack of Optical input as thats normally only utilised for 'true' surround systems with a dedicated DTS or DD decoder?
Anyone heard a DPL II system before compared to a DTS or DD System?

Who to hell would go for a DVD player now? Why not VHS? ;-)

Thanks!

I personally didn't purchase this though as it didn't have an optical input which is what i really needed and ended up paying £129.99 for a decent one with an optical input. I noticed these, thought they were a decent price for 5.1, especially samsung.
