Worth to note this has U3 which was the reason I bought one of these about 6 months ago (paid about £30-£40 I think then)... U3 enables you to make the flash drive appear to the PC as though it's a CD so you can stick an OS on it and use it to install onto a netbook, not faffing around with bootloaders etc... I couldn't get a boot loader to work so bought this and it worked straight away... !

You can download U3 if your memory stick doesn't have it.

Cool, thanks, good to know....

At £15.99 it's even cheaper than the budget play.com version, they have also changed the picture to show V2 of these so you should get the new style..

plays own brand is sooo much faster than my cruzer tho

Personally I wouldn't trust a play.com own brand over Sandisk for backing up my data.... Never had a Sandisk fail yet the reviews for the play.com ones failing is bad... Plus the picture is of V2 which is faster than V1

Who is voting this cold? Find it cheaper with delivery?

Don't vote cold without giving a reason....

Took me only a minute on top of copying all the files over. You must have been doing it wrong.

what's the read/ write speed on these?

I bought V1 a year ago at the same price! Still working fine.

When copying files from the stick to the PC windows reports mine as 26 MB/s, which is very fast.

When writing files from the PC to the stick windows reports it as 6 MB/s, which is still pretty good.

The case is a bit flimsy, but it lasts if you take care of it. The faster and much stronger built version is the Cruzer Contour, which has a write speed of 18 MB/s. This one costs £55. See link...

I tried to install the U3 LaunchPad on my non Sandisk memory stick but it said that it has to be Sandisk U3-Compatible in order to proceed with the installation.

personally I wouldnt use a USB flash drive to backup my data. They are far too unreliable as a backup medium to trust for important data.

This is a great price. First thing I would do is remove the U3 software as its a pain the the proverbials

My 8Gb Cruzer failed after a few months use - replaced it with a 16 Gb Dane Elec zLight which was more expensive (£19.99) than 16 Gb Cruzer but Read Speed: 33mb/s (220x) & Write Speed: 14mb/s (95x) and hopefully much more reliable.

You should, but don't be surprised if you don't.

I'd tolerate U3 if I knew it could be used to make the device bootable so you could install an OS from it.
I can't find anythin on the U3 site which says it does this - could someone shed some light.on this?

On a general note, I've got 2 cruzers and they're reallyl good - never had any problems with them.

Bought one of these about 6 months ago from play for £15.99 so this is not a good deal.

I can get mine to boot an OS quite happily, installed windows 7 on my netbook a couple of months ago this way. I dont use the U3 stuff.

you sure they weren't 8gb ones? :?

Yes but flash has gone up in price since then. As has DDR2 memory. I bought a 2GB SODIMM for £12 six months ago and they're more like£30 now.

However, that does not mean that a deal for a 2GB SODIMM for, say, £20 would not be hot...

Everything is relative after all. As a comparison, Ebuyer currently sell the Sandisk 16gb Cruzer for £21.99.

doesn't just mean that u had a good deal then, and there's a good deal on this now?

Hot deal, and the one on amazon looks like its a V1? (could be wrong i am going by the picture).

anyways, i'd rather not use these as a backup, got my 500gb portable wd elements :)

great deal, and good little xmas present!

I'm also worried with that white slider. When plugging the usb in that should be annoying.

dcx_badass;6964133
Good price, but the sliding connector is horrible, it always goes in on it's own when you try and plug it in.

Don't forget there is also 0.5% Topcashback as well on PC and electronics. £15.52

Good Price

Lost my 8GB last week

Of course I have just ordered one from Play 2 days ago at £17.99!

Was waiting for this to drop a little in price....great deal. I have the 8GB and it's nearly full, worked fine for over a year of heavy usage now...I always back everything onto an external hard drive though...heat

Just ordered 4, used one of the £5 off vouchers so worked out at £13.74 each.

Plus ordered a sentry safe f3300 from caboodle for £85. Waterproof and 1hr fireproof. Best price around for it at the moment.

Last Christmas, play.com sold these for about £10 I think in a 24 hour special.

They're okay. Slow access times and a bit plasticy but they do the job.
