Almost indestructable USB drive. Not the fastest or cheapest but will last and last compared to the plastic ones.
Also has retractable USB connection, no need for an end cap that you'll lose ....

It can also be extremely useful ;-)

These are good, very solid, they even survive being owned by my nephew. I bought the 32GB one from Tesco recently, though it's the plastic case, but U3 is useful for a few things.
#5
how long are these supposed to last anyway?
#6
I've had a Supertalent plastic and Cruzer Titanium in my pocket for about 2 years ...... I think the picture speaks for itself regarding the robustness of the titaniums.

Ive had a 16GB one of these for about 6 months now, still looks like new, and is very fast as transferring data.

U3 is very useful too, as I have firefox loaded on it, I can use it at my work without any additional browser being installed. Keeps the IT nazis at bay.

Erm, it'll not avoid the proxy. You can always use PortableApps and just run the latest version of Firefox from a local directory and it'll still not touch the registry

Why go for these when you can get a 64gb, thats right 64gb memory stick on ebay for £17.99 delivered free from taiwan?
#11
Out of interest, anyone know of any decent online instructions on how to install an operating system onto one of these so one can run the operating system from one of these USB sticks?

They are all obviously fake mate..... Just imagine a 64Gb for less than 20 quids. NO WAY..... They are just fake. Do not waste money on them.
#13
Great deal considering its less than £10 cheaper than the normal plastic cruzer!

Because ist probably a 2gb made to look like a 64gb. I had to learn the hard way many years a go when I brought an 8gb that was really a 1gb :x

This looks like a great deal just purchase one via Quidco.

I've been after one of these titanium ones for a while they sell used on ebay for more than this!!

And My memory sell real memory not fakes.

After I paid got offered £15 off my next purchase but I had to join some discount club who wanted by credit card details declined that offer and the "santa DVD" during the checkout process!

Thanks again. Excellent deal for a well made stick.

Last time they were on offer I hesitated and missed out that was 9 months ago!!!

They wont be at this price for long!

Sorry, if this is in the wrong place, but I want to buy a flash drive to use on an upcoming web design course, so I can take my work home.

I saw this, but I don't know what a U3 USB is, as opposed to a normal USB stick thingummy

I have an old computer (2002) with a old style USP port only

Will this fit, or are there any other recommended products

I know this store always sells them www.7dayshop.com

thanks !

Cheers

ordered via quidco

Yeah, I reckon this will work fine for you.

U3 is a piece of software that comes preinstalled on the memory stick. IT CAN BE UNINSTALLED if you don't like it, making the drive act the same as a regular memory stick. Personally, I don't like it, but there are many who think it is great.

From Wikipedia - U3 is a company producing a proprietary method of auto-launching applications from specially formatted USB flash drives. Flash drives adhering to the U3 specification are termed "U3 smart drives". U3 smart drives come preinstalled with the U3 Launchpad, which looks similar to the Windows OS start menu and controls program installation. The method works with recent Microsoft Windows systems only. Applications which comply with U3 specifications are allowed to write files or registry information to the host computer, but they must remove this information when the flash drive is ejected. Customizations and settings are instead stored with the application on the flash drive.

dumb question time

will this work on mac osx? can I easily remove the U3 business on a mac?
#22
Yes it can be used on OSX - it will be formatted to FAT or FAT32 by default which is universal.

noooo forgot about quidco... £1.24 could have saved >_<

paid via paypal so really cant be bothered to cancel it

thanks for the deal op,

and the comments about getting a 64gb usb stick for £17.99 is a massive risk (ppl already said its likely to be fakes, u get what u pay for another words), not to mention the protection and reliability u get is on a whole different level.

Absolutely!!
I bought what I thought was a really good but cheap sd card reader and guess what.

It corrupted my photos when transferring across to my pc and it took me a few sd card transfers to realise it was the culprit.
Not worth the risk with data.

From reading Amazon user reviews, it seems this particular model isn't as good as previous Titanium Cruzers, which is a shame. They've stopped using the old "LiquidMetal" finish and also now use a "breathing" amber LED status light.

While these are more or less cosmetic changes, the real deal breaker seems to be that the drive itself isn't as fast as the 2, 4 or 8GB models in read or write speeds. A lot complain about particularly slow write speeds, I'd guess they're not quite as slow as the Cruzer Micro, but they're definitely not as fast as previous Titanium Cruzers.

I've been looking at the Cruzer Micro for a long time because I've wanted a 16GB USB stick for a while, however I've been put off by the slow speeds (despite how cheap they are). The same is true now for this deal, although to a lesser extent. I wish they'd make a fast, reliable AND affordable USB drive...

all this talk about it being slow has me worried now that i've ordered it. it cant be that slow can it? depends what u use it for. i cant see me being in that much of a rush that a few mins would make a difference!

I think it is the format used (Fat32 Vs NTFS) the format become less efficient with the large capacities. This is not a hardware limitation or slow memory in the device. If your devices support a more modern disk format then reformat as required. FAT32 is the lowest common format that works on all types of device: PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, PS3, etc) also remember that actual performance of the transfers are linked to the host file system, the file system on the flash drive, the CPU availability (USB is an Intel developed spec and uses the host CPU, so modern machines can shift data much faster. Also the latest USB chipset in motherboard and disk IO systems are much quicker than older hardware even though they are all USB 2.

This is a good drive from the world's number one flash manufacturer. Its not the fastest drive but its in the top quartile and a rock bottom price.

The chap on Amazon (Phil Harvey) has a Mac, Linux and a Windows PC with XP on a 2006 PC so he has opted for the lowest common factor.

I think those eBay 64GB sticks are genuine, but the read/write speeds are pathetic: 6MB/s read, 3MB/s write (!!).

A vaguely decent drive will do 20MB/s read and 9-10MB/s write.
