Good deal, but this WON'T come with the extra caps and covers - read the reviews on the product page.

Surely you mean not Vista ReadyBoost compatible?

It's a USB flash drive, I don't see how it won't let you copy data to/from it under any OS?

It comes loaded with some pointless software, perhaps it's that that isn't Vista friendly? Just delete it - that's what I did.

It is also available for £8.99 from Amazon. Obviously this will end up costing more with p&p unless you're buying something else to get you over £15.

great spot, and I'm ordering the 500gb hard drive from there now, so free delivery for me.

Plus I'll get a few nectar points...

Work with Macs? I know it's generic but I had a Sony one which didn't before.

You've planted the seed now... Can anyone confirm a yay or nay on this?

What's the dodgy software on it as well?

o for the Sandisk Cruzer Micro 2GB with ReadyBoost and U3 instead from Amazon.co.uk, selling for £9.99.

As the name suggests, you get the added bonus of ReadyBoost and U3, which are very handy.

Plus, the inclusion of ReadyBoost makes it 100% compatible with Vista, since ReadyBoost can ONLY be used with Vista! :p

Also worth considering this Sandisk 2GB from Play for a pound more:

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3348399/SanDisk-2GB-Cruzer-Micro-USB-Flash-Drive-Ready-Boost-Enabled/Product.html

There's no cap with this version, the plug just slides in and out which I find to be a very neat design.

Thunderbolt - at a guess both statements (software not working, dodgy software) refer to the U3 software some Sandisk drives are shipping with. It's designed to give you access to applications which run straight off the memory drive. Personally I'm not very keen on it as I find it too intrusive, I prefer the open source http://www.portableapps.com which just pops a little icon in your taskbar when the drive is plugged in and nothing more. You can also choose exactly what you have on the drive.

The drive itself is just mass storage which will work fine in Vista.

I just posted a deal for the better cruzer micro drive you're recommending, with U3 and ReadyBoost. Amazon.co.uk have it better.. only £9.99 versus £10.99 on play.com!

Just a quick question though.. for PortableApps, do you have to install anything on the computer to use the apps off the USB drive? Or can you plug the USB drive into any XP/Vista computer and it will work?
#13
Yeah, I noticed you posted just after I did here - great deal! 17 pounds for the 4GB model is pretty good as well as postage will be free on that one.

You don't have to install anything for portableapps to work, it pops a little icon in your system tray you click to bring up the menu which includes your applications and links to documents/pictures etc. When you unplug it, the icon disappears - the applications themselves run entirely without installing, if you want you can download the applications from the portableapps site and just have them running from their folder without using the interface software. I haven't tried it on Vista though, only 2k/XP
