I brought a refurb zip+ but when it had a firmware problem Sansa couldn't help. They were very sorry but still couldnt help bring the unit back to life so for me the extra is deffo worth it.

    Heat added.

Bargain for what it is. Trouble is, other than for sporty type stuff, mobile phones are probably just as good these days.

agreed up to a point. Always pack my clip+ on a long journey as I know the battery will last for ages

topazz fair enough but you then run the phone battery down..plus these have better sound quality...defo better than an ipod or iphone....also i use mine as a car stereo player so its good to just leave it in the car

I'm a big fan of my clip+. Rockboxing it is essential though as the stock firmware doesn't output loud enough for my liking.

I've yet to find a good way of syncing my iTunes collection with it though. Just dragging and dropping tracks to folders. Bit manual, but I think it's a great and incredibly light player (good for running).

I will never use a mobile for anything that requires prolonged use due to the uncertainty regarding radiation.

If you are planning on using memory cards, then I would have to say "immensely", as every time you swap memory card the stock software re-indexes its internal database, which can easily take above an hour with just a modest amount of music - during which time the player won't do anything else. It's unbelievably annoying and frustrating, couldn't believe that a company would think it's acceptable to release a product that does that. RockBox doesn't have that problem...

I never use a mobile for music as the build quality of everything is crap these days; headphone sockets are the first to go, and I'd rather a headphone socket go on a more-or-less disposable MP3 player (I've the 8gig clip+ and yes, the headphone socket is going) than my £450 S3. Also I don't care about using it in the rain, or dropping it, or lending it to people, or whatever - none of which I'd do with a phone.

I tried Rockbox but it made the font too small to read, and the interface is absolutely dreadful compared to the stock one. You'd have to really, really want to listen to flacs or play terrible sub-retro computer games or whatever to suffer it.

Mymemory issued a false declaration when I unwittingly imported this mp3 player their misleading UK based website.

how easy is it to install rockbox?
    rustycutlass
Easy to install rockbox and well worth it, had this for a while and it's perfect. Also handy to have on you cos it's so small. Wish it had bluetooth but guess thats getting too greedy!

Everytime a Sansa Clip deal is posted here people queue up to say that you should 'rockbox it'. However, in my opinion rockbox is not all its cracked up to be - its just different. I didn't get on with it and uninstalled it after a couple of days. If you have a problem with the volume just change the settings to 'Rest of the World' and away you go.
