Awesome - i'm tempted. this isnt like SDHC where older models cant use it is it? I could do with a larger memory card for the summer holiday - hope to take lots of good snaps :)

Can anyone verify that this is the "bees knees" when it comes reading hitherto and thitherto on the PSP? At 8Gb would I expect longer read times or what?

Appreciate y'all comments and expertise.

I'm with SuB-K.

1GB is showing its limitations... to say the least. And when I get my PSN account working again, I'll want FFVII!

Check your device manual for compatibility. Many say they can only accept maxiumum of 4Gb memory stick pro duo

As stated below, some devices are not compatible with larger PRO DUO capacities... sorry about that

you can get plenty of 8gb on ebay for around 15.00 maybe not sandisk but just as good so cold for me

they are ebay shops as well so returns possible and guarenteed

I believe PRO DUO is the same technology regardless of capacity, so any size should work in any device. SD and SDHC cards are different technology, hence why older devices are incompatible with SDHC cards.

No, some Pro Duo devices have the same problems as SD/SDHC.

Some phones can't read high capacity cards, and PSP's with a firmware of "x" can't read 8GB Pro Duo cards. It's easy enough to update a PSP, not sure about other devices. :)

Not just as good, they are usually fakes with no copyright protection rendering them inadequate for many features on the PSP.

The ones on ebay for £15.00 99.999% of the time are fake and dont support magic gate. read the feedback on the sellers and you see what you are buying i.e fakes

Some devices cant read 8gb cards so please check you will actually be able to use this card.

DONT buy memory sticks off ebay. Virtually all of them are fake. I researched it for ages and eventually bought one off a powerseller and when it arrived it looked pretty much genuine sony. But it wasnt. It was 4gb and after a couple of months it can now only store around 2gb. So in future will only buy off a reputable shop/online store.

I got one from eBay, it was great until it fell apart and got stuck in my phone

Actually the lack of copyright protection only means that you cannot play music and videos that use a certain type of DRM called MagicGate.

DRM is not a feature, it is a hindrance.

I have one of the fakes and have met no disadvantage and saved myself quite a bit of money.

You don't need MagicGate for anything really.

So you don't need it for PSN games then? I was under the impression some required it - some UMD games won't let you save on a non-magic gate card (but I've never encountered one so it must have a very limited affect).

You are right though. I didn't encounter any problems with my first fake card whatsoever. However, a lot of the fakes are unreliable and are edited to make it look bigger than it is, resulting in corrupted data.

I bought 2 8GB's on eBay Genuine Sony (Yeh Right) told the guy that if he didn't send me my money back I would forward his fakes to Sony and when they confirmed they where fake I would send them his address. He couldn't send my money back quick enough, He was a UK seller.

I kept his fakes and they still work fine.

Maybe MagicGate is a hindrance, but Sony's latest camcorders won't work with all the fake memory cards that don't have MagicGate. They constantly throw up an annoying warning and beep a lot.
I got some 8GB ProDuo from DealExtreme and they work fine everywhere but my TG3E, similarly with a fake Sandisk stick I got from memorybits.
Can anyone confirm that these sticks have MagicGate (you can check this by viewing card info in a PSP).

i have a phat psp running CFW would this card definetly work in my psp?

i have a 4GB card and it works fine.

i also have one of those cr-5400 CONVERTERS from deal extreme, which allows you to put micro SDHC cards into and turns them into a pro duo....

i got two 4GB micro SDHC cards for £5.50 each......but i havent tried it yet, so im not sure if it works! does anybody else use this also?

Like I said earlier, it depends what version you are running.

Interesting. I just demanded £30 back to cover costs and return shipping etc. (the stick was £23 - why I take these risks I don't know!) but I may just hang on to it and get a refund.

I have one of these in my PSP. The first one I bought was faulty but the second one works perfectly. It is about half the speed for my 2gb sony (hispeed) card but fine for playing games etc....
