Nice price, virtually a pound a gig. I remember being amazed when hard drives hit that level.

obviously wipe the u3 crud unless you really want it...
#2
I grabbed one last week when they were only £15.99 from the same supplier...

I have had these for a few years now and can highly recommend them. The U3 system is ace and has saved me over £4000 because I backed up some important emails.

Anyone who disses U3 doesnt know what to do with it quite simply. I have 4gb, 8gb and have recently ordered the 16gb (although I am sure it was a little bit cheaper on Play when I ordered it.

Mine have been through the washing machine and sat in a pool of water for about a week before I found them and they still work perfectly.

Come on girlies stop arguing & put the handbags away :p

Nice deal OP :)

But no flip cap, so although it's hot, absolutely useless for me. I keep trashing these by losing the lids. Why can't I just put the lid back on when I take it out the machine?

Edit: Or is it retractable? Doesn't seem to say on the description. What does the big white button on the front do?
#6
can you use this for readyboost?

It is retractable according to one of the reviews that I just read on Play.
You can see a lip on one end of the "white button" that would be used to pull and push. :)

Thanks. Stupid question probably...when it's retracted, does the usb-thingy-bit get covered over by something, or is it a little hole where gunge can still get in?

Works with readyboost fine.

cheaper last week as a deal of the day, but still a hot price.

When it is retracted its not covered.

Ta. In that case I think I'll give it a miss. I'm always killing these with all the general filth that lurks in the bottom of a handbag. Thanks anyway.

USB sticks seemed to be halving in price every 6 months a few years ago, but in the last year they haven't really changed. I'm sure a 16GB was around £18 a year ago.

Ditto

16GB has been around £16-£17 for a year now. I have the play.com stick and it was fast, it blew up a couple weeks though. Play.com replaced it for me though as it was 11 months old :) The play.com stick is fast though. I bought an 8GB PNY stick as a temp replacement from rip off world and it's very slow in comparison to the play stick.

I wonder what the write speed is for this drive. I know the Sandisk Cruzer Micro averages ~5MB/s, which would take an age to transfer 16GB of data.
#19
MIne usually seems to be about 8mb/ sec.

It is retractable and, no, it doesn't bung up with dirt, unless you are using it when gardening perhaps.
#20
hi bought one last week wont work on computers at college,or computer at home (quite old),but opens on laptop at home any ideas why anyone.(sorry not very techie) Thanks
#21
Paid a bit more than this for 8GB from PCWorld only the other day.

Fortunately, still sealed and I have the receipt - hope they have a decent returns policy.

Heat & Rep.....!

"take it all with you-on reliable USB flash drives"
My Cruzer failed after a few months use - lost all data

"Transfer Speed: 480Mbps" -
Where does that come from and what does it mean? - not on the Sandisk website

the fastest 16Gb I've seen is theDane Elec zLight Read Speed: 33mb/s (220x), Write Speed: 14mb/s (95x)
#23
This is more expensive that it's been for ages. Picked one up from play a while back for £16.50, they recently they went down to £15.99.
Probably just the price of memory in general going up though.
#24
Mine doesn't work with readyboost. I think it's too slow to be used effectively.

Yea.....Me Too! So I Dont Know Why This Is Posted As A Bargain....Its Like Advertising

" Bargain Price £17.49 But Last Week By The Way They Were Cheaper!:thinking:"

Imagine The Tesco & Asda Adverts On TV Doing That....I Somehow Think They Would'nt Get
Away With It Pmsl:w00t:

Works fine with readyboost - no issues at all. Or I should say my 8gb has no issues

Mbps is not the same as MB/s. Mbps is Megabits per second, MB/s is Megabytes per second.

480Mbps is the specified maximum speed of USB2.0, and is equal to 57.2MB/s. I seriously doubt this drive can go that fast though.
#28
They're still not coming down as I'd have expected, bought one of these last year from play for £16.99, just before xmas.
#29
Note that these show in Windows as 14.9 gb (16,013,393,920 bytes).
