Hasn't it been this price for ages? Also, it's still more than £1 / GB, and not a particularly fast drive either.

Very slow drive, but its small, lightweight, and pretty well built so great for the keychain.
#4
Good deal for those that can't get the same drive for £10 at their local Tesco

Can anyone recommend a fast 16GB one for less than £20 please?

I was gunna order this?

Here is a good roundup

The OCZ throttle looks good - but its £50

Not good enough

Props to the OP for trying but Cold to Play for their sale of this product

All companies have gotten much too greedy of the past number of months with memory prices way too high

Until Play reduce this by a few more quid I'll not be a customer with this one as I'm sure neither will many others

Yes, this one is 150x speed. It is added to Scan's today only prices every now and then for less than £20 (send a note to scan asking for it's inclusion). I have free delivery at scan over £20 and am hoping for it to be added again today.

I won't be buying any more flash drives less than 150x tbh. Very frustrating having larger flash drives that are slow like the one in this thread

Its not Plays fault, it is the industry prices for memory causing it, during the recession in 2008 memory chip production throttled right back, and it takes years to ramp it back up again.

From what I have read both Hard Drives and Optical Drives will soon get to be expensive too.

That review is 14 months old. I'll look for something more recent as a lot of new drives have come out since then

and the 'throttle' speeds are by e-sata surely?

This was a pretty extensive roundup

There has not been many new 16GB flash drives come out in the last year.

Flash memory makers do not usually bring out faster versions of the same sized flash drive, they normally bring out larger sizes.

Also read the user comments to this article, as people are still posting comments even just a few weeks back

You guys are so picky, OK so £16.99 / 16 is not a £1/Gb, but it's not far off

Speed- well I just want it as an additional back up my to Itunes music, therefore speed is not really an issue.

Sarchasm seems to reign on this site, and if it's been this price for ages, then I must have missed it and am glad that someone else helped me out.

Thanks

The whole idea behind this site is to find the best prices for stuff out there.

Sorry if it irritates you when people provide constructive criticism or point out better/cheaper deals, but some of us appreciate the advice of people who know more about these things than we do.

For those saying it's been this price for ages are wrong...it was £17.99 for ages not £16.99

It is not Plays fault

It is STILL Play's fault to an extent - they receive the chips or stuff at a more expensive price from the manufacturer so they have to also ramp up their own price(s) to compensate for their profit margins

Really it's the manfacturer's fault - but since we have no direct contact with them, I lay the blame at the door's of the retailer because at the end of the day, they're also out to make their cut, and the more we can get over on them by forcing them to sell cheaper the better

The best way to do this though is vote with your feet.

Buy nothing at full price and buy everything on offer or at reduced price. It's the only way to get them to drive the prices down. Or go out of business.

I got this last week when it was £17.99 and used McD voucher to get this at £16.99 + Quidco. Should say the drive is very tiny and good one for keychain unfortunately I'm not happy with the transfer speed. Its quiet fast in my iMac but on Windows its slow (probably to do with older USB 1.0?). Good deal for a 16GB USB :)

The 8GB one is here http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/675913/sandisk-cruzer-blade-8gb-usb-flash-

Cheers

Had one for a month or so now, Its really small which is handy but it is not the fastest of transfer. Nothing too slow to cause an issue though.

Id recommend.

Got one for 16.99 with McD voucher last month, very nice drive excellent size. Performance seems fine to me not sure what the fuss is about tbh.

It all depends on whether speed is an issue to you. If it's not, then this drive does what it's supposed to do. But with average-poor read and write speeds (see review here), this will frustrate users who do value speed. For example, I regularly use drives to move RAW files from one PC to another, usually in chunks of about 5-10GB at a time after a shoot. Using a slow drive can make a huge difference to my workflow.

I haven't tested this one, but would be really interested to know how long it takes to copy 10GB of data from the drive to your HDD, and then how long it takes to copy it back. If you show me yours, I'll show you mine when my new one arrives.

Or if anyone else who has this drive would like to do the test, that's be great

p.s. and I know your PC will make a difference too, so best quote the basic spec

Been this price for months on Play.

Pretty sure that this was £17.99 only a week ago - recommended to my brother to buy one
#34
i bought one of these last time they were on for this price using the mcdonalds voucher code. Great memory stick very fast and looks cool however it is very easy to lose aqs i have found numerous times.

They were £17.99 last week but most folk got it for this price thanks to the McD vouchers. If you've got any left, they run out on the 31st.
