good spot mate, nice price

anyone used one before? build quality? speed?

Could you plug these into the Xbox 360 with movies on and watch them straight from it ?

Nice price, but don't buy for readyboost. Its pointless. Only useful if you have less than a gig of memory, and if that applies to you, you shouldn't go near vista! :)

Dont see how this is deal of the week... theres 8gb sticks on play.com going for the same price but with free shipping.

I have the 4GB one, had it a year or so, stood up to my attacks and still survives, so far I have bent the USB plug by hitting it when it is plugged in on accident, broken the case, took it apart, soldered the USB pins back on after snapping the USB port off and it still works.

Not the most durable things but certainly durable, my next one will be the "Titanium" metal one when they come down in price.

It does say "Was £15.99"... which according to you lot is also a great deal? Saving a quid off the normal amazon price isn't that much of a deal, thats what I mean. The £15.99 price itself may well be a hot deal tho...

Is it worth avoiding this one then and going for the Cruzer Titanium - especially if you keep it on a keyring etc? If it is worth paying the extra for the Cruzer Titanium, anyone seen any good deals?
The Play.com must surely be a pricing error at £49.99 as the Cruzer Titanium is a mere £32.99!

The 4Gb titanium can be had from PC World for £16.49 when they price match Play. 4Gb may not be enough for some though. I was torn between that and the 8Gb PNY stick. In the end I went with the PNY after reading some threads on HUKD about the Sandisk build quality.

Got PC World to price match Play on the PNY Attache Optima 8Gb - came to £16.79. Very pleased with it too. :)

Build quality doesn't seem to be as good as the earlier smaller capacity versions, but I paid £17.99 for one of these and am happy with it.

Yes you can, but if you were going to do that, you would be better buying a proper external drive, od do what i do, just link windows media player 11 to your xbox 360, then you stream movies over your wireless, works a treat :)

Actually it does make a worthwhile difference even with 2gb (but not with more than 2). Most gains are to be fount in application loading times rather than running performance. However, there is no point in buying 8gb for readyboost as allocating any more than 1gb of the stick is pretty pointless. You might as well buy a fast 1gb stick for a lot less and assign the full capacity to readyboost, leave it plugged in and forget about it.

I have a 2GB Sandisk U3, and its been in my pocket for months, attached to keys and it still looks A-KO and still does the business. So I'd say hot deal!

Get PC World to price match this and it's £12.49 (price match less 10% of the difference).

I feel sick.

I paid £40 for a 4GB version from Amazon last Xmas.

People have asked about build quality and speed.

I've had two of the 4gb versions for about a year and I'm impressed. The write speeds are fast .... admittedly not the very fastest I've seen but more than capable.

Build quality. A lot of people have mentioned it feels plastic. There's a good reason for that. It's made from plastic. :? Even so, mine gets carried day-in day-out in my pocket or on my keychain and no problems. It's a USB stick so that's how you treat it, as a USB stick not a lump of iron. If you're even moderately sensible it'll be fine.

The retractable usb socket is a big bonus. Not more losing the cap. Again, some have said it leave the usb exposed to bit's a dirt and dust and I can see their pointbut I've had no problems.
The installed U3 software could be a nice touch but I removed mine. Can be re-installed easily enough with the software from the products homepage.

Out of 10 I'd give it 8.5.

just a note for anyone who has bought this over the last few weeks at £17.99 or £16.99. Dont forget to contact amazon and get the price difference refunded under the terms of their past-price promise, to refnd any price reductions made in the 30 days after your item is despatched... just had my email for £3 refund:)

It's a very good deal. I bought the 4gb version from Amazon back in March for £9.99 and thought that was a good deal at the time. The build quality is a bit so-so and it's definitely not as solidly built as the previous Cruzer micro 1gb version I had but I haven't had any problems with it at all so far. I also prefer the push/pull retractable sliding usb connection design over capped pen drives.

Mine received today. After a first attempt at removing the U3 software under Vista, the drive appeared to be corrupt. Fortunately, a trip into the Disk Management MMC console solved that via a quick format (right clicking on the drive in Explorer > Format failed with an error)... I then had to reinstall the U3 software via a download from the Sandisk site, then run the uninstall again on a non-Vista machine.

I now have a full capacity 8Gb thumbdrive without that horrible U3 on it :)

BARGAIN!
#25
I really rated the 4Gb one of these removed the U3 software though.(using the sandisk website - you can always reinstall it if you want)

Its really fast I found- for example - I totally filled it absolutely full of photos - took about 20mins.

By contrast a 4gb stick my dad had bought from play.com - a blue thing- there own brand I think - took about 1 hour to transfer exactly the same files onto it. It pays to get a good brand I think

Also - have been able to do transfers onto it, at the same time as transferring stuff off of it - which I think is pretty good!

Build quality is ok, has lasted well so far.

i've had the 1gb version for well over a year, and it still works fine, it seems very solid and durable to me, and i paid more than this for that at the time - bargain!
