Back in stock. £17.99 + £2.50 Delivery.
Best value compact flash, genuine kit.
I got one 5 weeks ago, but they sold out shortly after it hit the frontpage here.
I am using it with a CF to IDE adapter (from dealextreme SKU 9304) as a solid state HDD in my old laptop - making it whisper quiet and quick to start up.
Shall i get another for my camera...?

That would depend on how much storage you needed, what your budget was and besides it's OOS and about £90 for anywhere that has got stock.

It wouldn't make any difference. Isn't that just a 16gb version?

That 16gb card is worth more than my old laptop!
When using a compact flash card as a HDD the memory will get fried by the rewrite cycles after a couple of years of use - So this is not a great solution for a 'proper' laptop.
I have brought back to life an old laptop using xubuntu, which now operates silently.
I use tightVNC to access my imac and mythtv frontend.

the dvd.co.uk price is a bit better! Good find Sharpe.

£17.99 + £1.99 p+p = £19.98 Delivered, plus 2% quidco.(36p)

So after quidco £19.67 (vs £19.77 from picstop)

I have had good experience from dvd.co.uk in the past.

I ordered this card from dvd.co.uk yesterday. Seemed to be the best price out there right now. I'm told that Kingston Elite Pro cards are also worth a look - a 4gb card is also £17.99 delivered from 7dayshop.com.

Note to those with older digital cameras and earlier generations of DSLRs - you won't necessarily get the benefit of the stated speeds from some of the newer, faster cards (such as Ultra III) purely due to the maximum speed that your camera can access the media. So, check out the older Sandisk Ultra II cards (good deals all over the place, but I spotted a 4gb card for £17.99 delivered, again from 7dayshop).

Incidentally, for a good indication of what's cheap where on the camera accessory front, check out...

If nothing else, it's always good to see how appalling some of Jessops' prices are. £66.49 for the Extreme III card AFTER a discount gets applied.

The MyMemory cards (like all cheap flash memory) are MMC, a much slower format.

Their website gives this info for the MyMemory 133x card you mentioned: 'Speed - Up to 20MB/sec. read rate and up to 9MB/sec write rate'

Notice the words 'up to'. What that means is that for literally a fraction of a second it will reach that speed, when the card is first accessed. Then it will drop significantly to less than half that, lets say 4mb/sec in the case of writing.

The MyMemory website lists the equivalent Extreme III CF card as 'Read/Write Speed 20MB/sec = 133X'. These cards are guaranteed to never access below 20mb/sec in any conditions, whether reading or writing. That is why these cards cost so much more, they are not using the (frankly junk) MMC layout. This is why professional photographers only use expensive memory.

You get what you pay for, and in my experience all MMC cards are absolutely atrocious, particularly with write speeds. Then again, they are a heck of a lot cheaper, and good for storage.....
