Was looking for memory cards for a new Nikon D90 SLR. This is a fast camera & if you want to get the most of continuous shooting you need a fast card.

This sandisk is the fastest on the market, and sandisk worked closely with Nikon to optimize it's performance in their cameras. All the SLR forums I've read support the fact this is about the best card out there.

If you don't need continuous shooting get something like an extreme II 15 Mbps (ie from 7dayshop) instead. I decided I'd get one super-fast card, and top up capacity with much slower cards.

This is the best price I've seen. Most other places it's around 50 UKP+.

Note this is the NEW FAST version of this card. The older card is only 20 MBPS yet is still listed as "extreme III". You need to check the card/box clearly states 30 MBPS edition in big letters on the front

Note
a) On the web site/photo it shows this as the 30 MBPS edition
b) At the argos tillpoint in-store it states the description is wrong, and this is the 20 MPBS card
c) As I'd driven to collect a reservation I asked to inspect anyway - and it was the 30 MBPS card.

So I have no idea on what % of cards are 30 vs 20 in argos -- I'd guess new stock is faster, so YMMV on this deal.

Yes it is only 8Gb -- this is a superfast card that you may not need -- but *if* you are after one it's a good price IMO.

You can get 8Gb for £10 (cheap) -£15 (good sandisk) but they'll be about half the speed.

This is a special type of SD card, please make sure you know why it is different before voting.

Thats a good deal for the 30Mb/s card Extreme card.

Not suitable for most people, but only taking 4.30 to read or wrote a full 8gb from this card is pretty damn good.
Tech enthusiasts or keen photograpahers will be the main buyers.

this is very expensive .... go to 7dayshop and and buy the transend 8gb class 6 which is exactly the same speed for only £12

http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_6&products_id=104378

if you look at the picture of the card then on the right side you'll see a big 'C' with a 6 inside it ... thats the speed ... usually the higher the number, the faster and more expensive

The feedback on places such as dpreview -- for SLR addicts is that the sandisk card is a LOT faster -- reaching around 20 Mbps which is well in excess of the class 6 standards.

If you only take single shots/video stick with the slower cards.

**If** you need the fast speed ie to allow for continuous shooting then this card will significantly increase the number of shots you can take before the buffer in a camera such as the D90 fills up.

It all comes down to REQUIREMENTS and VALUE. If you don't need the above don't spend the extra money, if you do this is a decent price.

Yep I agree with what you've said above .... the transend's specs are :

Transfer Speed(8GB): Approx. 19MB/sec Read; 13MB/sec Write. Chipset: MLC

So its around 1/3 slower overall, but obviously a lot cheaper ...

I've had a few of the 8's and 16's recently for dell 9's and they're brilliant. Annoyingly the 16's have shot back up in price - they were as low as £20 at one point !

Good to hear about the transcends. May get some for additional storage

This feedback is for the previous 20Mbps range of cards, Sandisk have now rereleased their extreme range with a faster 30Mbps throughput for both read and write.

Expiring. Price gone back up to 48.

Also I played with a new D90 using an ancient old slow Sandisk 128Mb card. Worked just fine since photos are buffered. Even recorded VGA video ok. So now wondering if I really need the fast card... to repeat ONLY worth getting for continuous shooting IMO.
