excellent price! Heat added. Wonder if it comes with the usb card reader...
#4
will it work for my samsung F490? not sure if its different to a standard microSD?
#5
2 months ago this was found by Edi and was selling for £14.99.
Hopefully this is a good deal.

Although the irony for me is that this wont work in my mobile phone!
#6
i already have one in my phone so i'll pass on this. buy it while you can, its a mega monday deal i think. may only last 24 hours :)
#7
Good price for a Class 4, hot

It's a good price for these cards. It's the 1st time I have seen them hit the £10 mark.

When this deal finishes, there are still 8GB cards available for £10.99, which are class 6 speed, rather than class4 like these ones.

Very few cards come with a USB reader these days, usually, the description will explicitly state it.

Yes I use a £2.95 adaptor from DX and they work fine.
Don't know if there are any cheaper adaptors though.

It should do, it depends which one you have.

I use these now, worth the extra 40p or so.

as the ones that DX sent me recently are temperamental with 8GB cards, despite being the ones they sent me previously.

Not for me though... I ordered 2 of these cards from Play late last night when they were £12.99 each.

Does anyone know if play do refunds like Amazon do?
#23
Does anybody what class these Sandisk are in comparison ?
http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/6534079/Sandisk-Micro-SD-HC-4GB-Card/Product.html

Been using the above for a while for DS Edge Carts but for an extra £3.20 might order some of these 8gb ones for the next batch.

Nice find JasonMason, Cheers.

That's a Class 2. Class 2 is fine for use in the DS, should only bother with a faster card if you want to save a few minutes every time you transfer stuff to/from your PC. Also consider that SDHC takes up more power than normal SD so if 2GB is enough for your needs then you should go for a 2GB normal SD for better battery life.

This Play.com Sandisk microSD 8GB card is only class 2

Yes, the Samsung F490 uses a Micro SD card.

I don't know whether your phone will take a 8GB card or not.

A lot of phones were made before 8GB cards were available to test them in, so the manufacturers may say that they only accept smaller capacity cards, when in fact larger cards fit.

The classes of cards signify how fast the card can be written to, so it can make a difference in some devices. The higher the class, the faster the card. When you are talking about 8GB cards, class does start to come into play.

A class 6 card is down to £10.49 now, so all in all, a better spend:

Anyone receiving a 8GB Class 2 card from Play.com will be able to get a full refund including return P&P in accordance with thier T&C, as it quite clearly states that this is a Class 4 micro SD card. and they have sent the wrong product.
#30
I was going to purchase a class 6 from 7dayshop, decided to settle on a class 4. PLay have sent me a class 2 but when I log in they have the opton to return all my recent items except this.

Also there terms and conditions and return procedure are setup in order to prevent anyone returing items. No means of contact and I'm still waiting for a DVD for my son from weeks ago.

Terrible service

You know there is a telephone number you can ring dont you.

0845 8001020

Not everything needs to be done by logging in and clicking returns buttons.
Try ringing their customer service line, ive had nothing but fantastic service.
#32
Yeah, this is only class 2. Dissapointed.
I'll keep it, but Play seem to be slipping recently and i'm hesitant about using them anymore, at least until they sort themselves out. I don't like being mis-sold.

If you have a genuine R4, it will not work, as they only accept 2GB cards maximum.

Back up to £12.99, so Expired.
#36
Cheers Saint.
#37
The thing that annoys me is that they still have this up as a Class 4 card, despite all the complaints :x
#38
It looks like the class 4 version has been discontinued and the class 2 has taken its place.

I've tested the class 2 Sandisk 8GB Micro SD and compared it to the class 4.

TeraCopy large file on Intel ICH with Sandisk Micromate USB reader:

Class 2
Read: 18 MB/s
Write: 12.5 MB/s
DS cf_bench random access 512-byte Max/Avg: 0.721/0.685

Class 4
Read: 18 MB/s
Write: 15 MB/s
DS cf_bench random access 512-byte Max/Avg: 0.649/0.622

Update:
I've just tested the Sandisk 8GB Ultra version:

Class 6
Read 19 MB/s
Write 17 MB/s
DS cf_bench random access 512-byte Max/Avg: 0.648/0.618

So the Ultra Class 6 card is the one to get if you need the better random access performance for devices like the DS. The Class 4 is equally as good if you can find one.
