How gud are these sound wise?

Read reviews online but they all pretty much say the same thing - sound quality is excellent. I get over 10 hours battery life as well.

- Rockbox it and get 20+ hours plus battery life - I was sceptical of the sound quality claims but they are right you'll end up spending more the headphones to hear the incredible playback.

If all you want is just a music player this is great! well built and supports a variety of codecs like FLAC. Also it has a digital FM radio.firmware upgrades via usb so its getting supported. Screen is fine its visible and the interface is easy to use.

Not trying to bum this up but if all you need is a music player this is the best value for money MP3 right now.

Which really is a deal killer on a device used to listen to music...
The screen is perfectly fine, and the audio quality is up there with the best of them (Sony, Samsung, Cowon).

I have 4 of these in my household .....AWSOME little player !!!

Amazing deal, can't recommend this enough.
Fantastic Mp3 player, and with a free 8GB card.

Cheers for this, I almost bought this yesterday on Amazon for my hubby, but decided to order a cheapo refurbished Sansa clip for myself and let him play with that first to make sure he liked it. With the free memory card, though, I decided not to wait until he could test drive my player. Great find!

Ooh, just remembered part of why I wanted to go with Amazon is they cover goods for a year. A quick search about Play's policy shows this: "All electrical products are covered by a twelve month manufacturer's warranty. If your product develops a fault while under warranty, please contact Play.com and we will advise you where to send it for repair. It is a "return to base" warranty therefore there will be a delivery charge to return the product back to the relevant UK service centre."

Anyone know how good Play is about dealing with faulty goods several months in? We have had trouble with players before and want to know we can get it fixed if it dies in 10 months.

Update: Ugh, went back to cancel the order I made less than an hour ago, and it's already packing and won't let me! I did some more searching and found no good news about returning an item to Play after 28 days, and I had forgotten a bad experience I had with Play CS before. I'd rather do business with Amazon. How easy is it to just send it back as soon as it arrives and get a refund?

I have two of these (lesser capacity)

Absolutely top notch devices.

another excellent quality for this little mp3 is that it records, and it's very good at it!

For the same price - or little difference - I'd have not bought it from play, bot for a £ 10-15ish present... I gave it a go. It did happen once that I ordered one from Amazon and it was faulty so I turned it back

Very good value at this point of the selling season but they're generally on offer elsewhere sometime in January. Buy from Play.com if you must but just pray nothing goes wrong with it - and they tend to because they're tidgy little devils that get handled, dropped, sat on and slept on etc - so much. In my experience, Play's reputation for not giving a stuff once they've got your money is well deserved.
#23
this or a shuffle...?

THIS!!! heat added!

I have one of these and it really is good. If you dont want to add Rockbox then just set your location to Rest of the World(or something like) and then it goes a lot louder. Also some good headphones are a must. A mate recommended some Koss PortaPros and I have to say they are the best budget headphones I have ever tried and really make the Clip+ sound as brilliant as it should be.
Also don't forget FLAC rather than MP3. That makes a big difference too.

Yes, I wish I'd remembered that Play was crap for CS before I ordered! Now I don't know what to do, the whole reason we were spending more for this one for my husband is we wanted something with a reliable warranty. How is Play with returns -- I'm afraid if I mail it back as soon as I get it it will get lost in the warehouse or some other problem, even if I send it signed for (can you even send it signed for when it's going to Jersey)?

Ugh, I have GOT to stop checking these deals before going to bed at night, it's too late to think clearly and I'd rather not have seen this! No offense to the OP, it's a good deal, but I got so caught up in the deal that I forgot why I never buy anything from Play that might require CS or repairs at some point.

It's surprisingly good, bright clear and doesn't burn your eyes in the dark.

Anyone recommend a docking station that goes well with this.

Just bought one. Thanks for the tip-off !
#33
Yes, it's not an ipod.
But a 16gb ipod isn't less than £40.

Smoking hot.

These are fantastic, i got the 8gb one without an extra card for only a few quid less than this and that deal was hot at the time. Fantastic little player for the gym, absolutely love it.

Amazing price for an awesome player. Mine is 8+* and the music integration is seamless. I'd reiterate everything PintMcPint says, these go great with the v cheap PortaPros.

Mine was from Amazon and I broke the clip a day or so before the first anniversary of delivery. Amazon posted a new one to me just under a day later. Great service.
#36
Add in a 16GB Micro SDHC memory card (currently £16.45 on Amazon) and this gives a 24GB (8GB + 16GB) player for just under £56, I would personally also order from Amazon for 1 year guarantee peace of mind.
Good price find!!!!
#37
As good if not better sound than ipod. + Drag and drop tunes :))

Headphone sockets are known to go on the early models.
Keep receipt/register product.

I have one of these, lovely little thing. The controls are straightforward, and it sounds great.

I managed to send it through a cycle in the washing machine, but after being left to dry out for a few days it was fine! ( This rough treatment caused the MicroSD card to pop out, but I found that it the washing machine's filter a month later)

- I can confirm that it can be plugged into the USB socket of a car stereo (in my case, a cheap all-singing Silvercrest stereo from Lidl for £50) if you have it set to 'usb mass storage' when you copy music across.

-It doesn't do gapless playback (at least with WMA files). However, the gap is small and not as jarring as it is with some other players. I can still comfortably listen to, for example, The Dark Side of The Moon, or a mix album on it. You can explore RockBox (http://www.rockbox.org/) if you want true gapless playback)

Oh, SHAME ON YOU, Currys in the Mall, Cribbs Causeway, Bristol: You sold me your last one as NEW, SHOP DISPLAY unit for no discount... I then discovered it had been sold and returned, as there were photos of some teenage girl and her mates on a night out in Bristol on it.

Fantastic little player, I paid about the same for an 8gb with no card so this is a great price.
