This has really annoyed me, I've wanted one of these for ages and I held off on buying one hoping the price would come down, but it seemed to stay at the £44.70 point for a long time, so I bought one last week. Wish I'd have waited a little bit longer now. I installed Rockbox on mine and really like it.

I found someone selling a brand new boxed 4gb one on ebay for £19 delivered!! What a bargain... Only gripe is radio reception is not the best!

Whats the benefits of rockbox?
#3
Purchased the 2 gig one for £19.99 from Currys the other week, very pleased with it and it worked out cheaper to buy it and stick an 8 gig micro sd card in it myself than buy an 8 gig one.
#4
I just bought the 2gb version from ebay £20

The sound quality is much improved - its makes it near excellent - comparable to the high end players.
Features such as gapless playback are included.
Battery life is much improved.
Sound levels can be made to be really loud.

I got two of these, one for myself and one as a present, for under £40 just before last Christmas. I bought another one as a gift last month and was surprised to find that I couldn't get it for under £45, I thought technology was supposed to drop in price!

Excellent player though, I expanded mine to 24gb

Got an old one of these and it's great.
So just ordered this due to the extra capacity.
Remember on these new ones to select USA / North America as place of use.
This is because E.U. laws have now limited the volume.
I'm not sure how exactly you do this yet, but if anyone knows then post it on here please.
No doubt it will help quite a few people out.

thanks just ordered.

This is a must, i was gutted as i chose Europe on start up and the volume was pathetic. I like having the choice of volume even if i dont go that high!!

Someone will know better i am sure, but if you dont chose USA as your region on first boot up, then i think you have to reset all settings to factory default. Doesnt wipe your music!

Had mine for a while, always take it the match with me and found the radio reception to be pretty good. Highly recommended!

I highly recommend this player. £39 for the 8GB version is a great price too. Hot stuff.

Also you should be able to get a 16GB card for £20 or less.

My last clip packed in, took it back to currys and they didn't have them in anymore so ended up with a refund.

Been after another one though so this price for a clip + is great.

Sounds like you have to be carefult with rockbox, mind you my clip just stopped playing for no reason

Disclaimer
Even though the bootloader installation and rockbox itself are tested, there's always a risk of BRICKING your device PERMANENTLY. Some Sansa AMS (m200 v4, C200 v2, Clip v2) have no known method for recovery, so this risk will not go away, even in (if any) future stable releases.
There's no known user-friendly recovery method for the AMS Sansas, those of them who can be unbricked (not all of them can) need to be physically opened, and they can be potentially damaged in the process.
Installation of a bootloader may or may not permanently disable DRM support, even if you uninstall it (this might only be true if you change the Date/Time settings).

If you choose 'Rest Of World' as your location the volume isn't limited at all. You're right, if you've already selected your area you need to go into System Settings > Reset Factory Settings to choose again, and yes it doesn't wipe your songs, only basic settings like repeat, shuffle, eq settings etc.

i've got one of these, fantastic player, how do you put rockbox on it?
#17
I'd recommend this MP3 player, I bought it for £39.99 a few months ago and it works a treat.
#18
Superb player. Highly recommended. Great as a gym music player.
Proven better sound quality that current iPods. No need for rubbish iTunes!
#19
great mp3 player, didnt want to shell out for the ipod nano as it was expensive and had a terrible UI. And did not want an expensive ipod shuffle, so i found this instead and love it!
#20
i have this.. is a very good mp3 player...
#21
I have one its great and a big thumbs up to rockbox
#22
Great little player

My sons older model Sansa survived a full wash and spin cycle, and still worked perfectly!
#23
I lost my last one because it was too small!! Better get another one and tie it onto a bit of cord!!
#24
Beats any of the ipod's hands down in the sound quality department!!! Iv got the 4gb version a while back and bought the Soundmagic PL11's and the combination is just...beautiful music!!!

Mine packed up too, but I wouldn't accept a refund. I demanded they get a replacement from Sandisk. They did ... unfortunately it was an 8gb one rather than a 4gb one........ :-)

I have the 4GB one, which cost me £25 around the end of 2009. Fantastic device, drag and drop. One the 4GB one the volume limiter was turned on by default, but you could turn it off provided you didn't update the firmware to the newer European one (and I could see no reason to update it anyway). Only slight downside on the 4GB one is that you can only make one playlist from the player itself (can make others from PC apparently) - not sure if this applies to the 8GB model too. A minor downpoint though, great deal, hot.
#27
can someone who has done it tell me how to install rockbox on this, is it easy to do?

It's pretty easy to do, just follow the instructions here. There is always a risk that the installation may leave your player unusable if it goes wrong, so be careful.

How is that achieved?

easiest way to rockbox this player:
http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53702

"Installation instructions: Unzip both files, bootloader and firmware, to the root of your Clip+. That's all. The Clip+ has to be in MSC mode, not MTP."

as easy as it gets.
note that the player will then be harder to use, but better once you figure it out.

the main reason i installed is for crossfeed, which basically makes music sound like its in front of you when you use headphones, rather than directly in your head, which makes things less tiring to listen to. i think it should be a standard feature...

anyone had any problems returning a failed rockbox-ed clip? just a thought..
i don't mean failed due to rb - that's v unlikely, i mean a hardware failure that would have happened anyway, but does RB cause warranty problems with amazon?

I've got one of these. The sound quality is awesome, better than pretty much everything else I've had bar my iRiver H140 (certainly better than my Cowon D2+ was). The build quality is rubbish and the screens given up after under a year. Shall attempt to return it but not holding out much hope. There is noticeable flex on the thing.

I've replaced it with an 8gig Philips Gogear Raga which is much more solid but a bit larger and has much poorer sound quality and volume.

edit: sorted now, thanks for the link smiff :D

Ace little mp3 player.

If you like it rough or maybe a bit pervy, you can buy your clip+ a little rubber suit on amazon here
Also, to give your lugholes a treat, l highly recommend replacing the standard earphones provided with better quality ones such as Sennheiser CX300 II's.

Buy it again, and then return the new one as the original order.

Good flac player but had two of these from Amazon, both of which had display problems.

The first one's display stopped working, it would mount but also the battery heated up to the point where it felt like it was going to explode.

The replacement has just developed a screen fault so am waiting for a pickup and a refund.

Both faults appeared within 3 weeks of typical use (It was protected in a silicon case)

Maybe you'll get lucky with yours but In my opinion, these are very poorly put together and I would not recommend them to anyone.
#36
Would reconmend SanDisk mp3 players, I've been using the older model for a good few years, don't see the need to replace it. Heat Added.
#37
oh my lord not this deal AGAIN
#38
Good price and very good sound quality but be warned... these break easily. So far I have bought 2 over last 18 months and both have stopped working. Seems like there is a fault with the soldering inside the unit.
#39
yep...mine broke after 3 weeks. then 3 months. very poorly constructed
#40
well it's cost vs time before (breaks/lost/stolen).
if you compare this against an ipod, the clip might only have to last 3 months to be a better deal.
my clip v1 lasted over 2 years. the clip+ seems slightly bulkier and weaker and the clip isn't removable, which is a shame. still the best player i know though.. if it lasts a year i'd consider that great value for the amount i use it.

wish i'd got the 2GB for £20 actually.
