These are old models ( circa 2006)

They were superseded ages ago by the Sansa View and Sansa Fuze. Both of which are better - but then they are not available at this price.

thanks. been looking for an mp3player at this range and price for the past few weeks. my patience paid off. thinking of giving this as a present..

I have the 8GB version of this and had it about 2 years. Its great for everyday use and can drag and drop files so none of the Itunes hassle......
Yes, there may be more fancy players out there, but for this price, its a steal.
(My 8GB version cost me £100 at the time)

I have the sanza fuze , excellent players.
#10
The sansa fuze was on hotukdeals a while back for the same price

The e200 series are horrible players. you couldn't pay me to have one.
Sandisk fuze is brilliant.. these are ****.

Avoided this player, They really are horrible players.
#13
Not voted, the price isn't bad but I don't think it's hot.

I've heard mixed reports about this player however the newer Fuze (and clip) are well worth looking at

I used to have the 260, it feels cheap and plasticky and didn't stand the test of time. Also the volume was crap at full whack. However for this price it may be worth a punt...

mines already been dispatched was having second thoughts after reading last few posts, however most problems around the net seem to be software issues, freezing, not recognizing usb etc, most these problems are from last year and before.I would think some stable firmware should be out now to fix most of these problems

Yes not recognizing usb etc was the problem my daughter was having but it is a good price i payed about £80 for it at the time so was not happy.

I think you can install this opensource firmware on this unit - http://www.rockbox.org/

Allows you to play other media formats. Does anyone know if this firmware makes this unit better or worse?

mine arrived today and i have to say i am quite impressed with it, and i am glad i gave the some of the bad reviews on amazon a wide berth

some problems on the reviews were

1. usb not connecting - if you go into settings there are 2 usb modes you can change to, however it connected fine for me
2. low volume- again in settings if you click volume change it from normal to high and its very loud
3. cant change equalizers manually - you can set your own in settings under custom also in the settings menu

the radio is disabled but im sure that can be sorted, going to take a look now.The earphones are also very good for freebies.

I heard the door knock early when i got to the door and opened it the postman was back in the van, i shouted him and he pointed to the floor by my front door, he had just put the parcel on the floor by the door and it was hammering down with rain, i wasnt impressed, oh and it came as usual in plays stupidly oversize box so it rolls around everywhere.

I received item from play today. The sansa box was torn, (looks like it is a return) with no player inside! Sending back to play.com with registered mail as requested. Hope they will refund postage cost as well. They said they would, but not so impressed by their service, doubt if i can trust them doing a good job.

Their returns systems is poor, keep an eye out for the postage refund as you may need to chase them about it.

I don't think this is a bad player and if it was very cheap I think it's worth picking up however I think it's too expensive at this price - the Fuze/Clip aren't much more and they have a much better audio chipset. The only problem I had with my E280 was that after about 18 months of use some dust had crept into the screen and the scroll wheel became loose which meant when it wasn't being touched it would move the volume up and down. This scroll wheel issue, the audio chipset and lack of sdhc support were the main factors in deciding on a Fuze purchase.

I havent got mine yet ..Hoping that I wont get an empty box like tara ..

Have you found out how to unlock the radio ? (Gaining knowledge to use the player to its max :) )

I'd check the forums here:

http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9

It's a while since I looked into it and as mine was an earlier E280 it doesn't have the radio hardware, I think it involves flashing the device with a US firmware but you should find out from the abi forums.

Improves it vastly. I installed it on my sisters e260, hers had problems with deleting songs and things not appearing, after rockbox it worked perfectly. Not to mention it adds support for more audio and video formats, as well as games and emulators for systems such as the nes.

The radio won't be there by default, if the hardware is there you'll need to flash it with a US firmware at least that was the case when I purchased mine.
