This seems like a decent deal for a well reviewed 256gb SSD.

I think the last time we saw a sub-£70 SSD was for the Kingston V300, but that was a lottery in getting assured 400+ read & write speeds depending on the firmware.

This has 530 MB/s read & 445 MB/s write.

This or keep the Samsung 830 128Gb, although I know this is 256Gb.

I have a old Asus 10" netbook running XP . I was thinking of replacing the HDD with a SSD . Not having taken the drive out of the Asus ,so I dont know what type of drive is in .ie IDE, SATA etc .Wondering if this drive would be any good . Has anyone replaced there Asus drive ? what type of HDD is in ? What would be an ideal replacement ?
thanks.

depends on the model. I had an n5010 which did take a bit of time to change the drives. n5110 is also possible. it's just a simple search on YouTube.

Without knowing the model I could not say 100% your hard drive is SATA.. I would assume it is.. your best off checking.. its usually two screws in the bottom somewhere... then pull it out and check.. if its SATA it would be a great upgrade but you would also have to move to Windows 7 to see any real benefit..

But as a side note you will find your machine works like a brand new laptop ;) Sata upgrades are THAT good :)

Considering Asus make about 1000 different laptops or more over the years a model number of what you have would be helpful if you want further assistance?

I have Dell R15 touch screen version, but I was wondering. Can I replace this instead of CD Drive and use two hard drives?
Does Touch Screen version makes any difference?

My hard drive is running at 100% and keep freezing, so I think this is gone

Would this ssd help, and would it fit to replace the HDD completely or can you run the two in sync from the optical disk drive?

Yes you can replace the disk caddy with one which fits a SSD in it. Depends how thick the disk caddy is, I think there are two versions, google is your friend :)

You could completely replace the faulty / virus infested mechanical with an SSD either in a drive caddy or the same place the HDD is stored.

You can also run two in sync if you choose, you don't have to use the mechinical if both physically exist in the same machine (just disable the other or remove it entirely).

Thank You MichellT. I just ordered.

I've had this drive for nearly a year now and it's been absolutely fantastic, even on a 2 year old i5 laptop the difference in bootup speed and overall responsiveness compared to the 5400rpm that was in it has been huge. I paid £120 for mine so this is a great price

Yes I installed a Samsung evo at the weekend, you have to take the laptop apart and take out the motherboard to get to the hard disk. Plenty of YouTube clips to follow if needed.

Laptop boots in 10 seconds now :)

Will only use sata 2 in a caddy and I believe you can't boot from it.

You will need an adapter of some kind, I can't remember what it was.
