Any thoughts on whether this would be a good boot drive for a Microserver? (I am being lazy)

Define good... I have 1 microserver with an ssd boot disk, and another with an hdd. They both work fine. My microservers are NAS only systems so they don't touch the boot drive in normal running.

Ordered. Although do you actually get the 3 year warranty with this? Given that its an OEM part and not Retail, I think it may just be a 1 year warranty. Great deal anyway.

It would be fine.

Although, depends what you're using it for. If it's an always on machine, and you're not often logged onto it actually "doing things" with the OS, then I can't imagine you'd see a great deal of benefit with an SSD ...

Are these the same as the ones last month for £35 on Amazon?! Damn, I should have waited a little longer! :( Oh well.
Great drives by the way, my Windows 8.1 is super fast and snappy now, I know W8.1 uses a hybrid system for shut down now, but it loads up from shut down in under 9 seconds for me which is really impressive!

Great price, £33.37 on Amazon at the mo.

Couple of reviewers says theirs died though?!?

If you buy it for £34.99 off the main Curry's website it does come with a 3 year warranty.

I wouldn't be surprised if these are warranty replacements that they received to replace faulty drives sent back to Sandisk.

New Manufacturer Sealed
There is an intact manufacturer's seal, and the item is brand new and pristine.
Some product boxes are unsealed as supplied by the manufacturer, these are still brand new, pristine, and listed as "New".
Items listed as "New" come with 12 months Currys/PC World Outlet warranty.

Don't do it! They might be cheap but they are dire. I've had two die - one died after a year, them the warranty replacement (which I had to ship back to CZ for) died after 2 weeks!

It'll be the usual. More likely to leave feedback if you have problems.

We use Sandisk SSD's at work in units we assemble and sell (thousands of them out there) and the failure rate is very low on them. In use, they get worked pretty hard. Cheap as chips at this price. Heat.

Yes but its 9 quid to post it registered to the Czech republic to their service centre... recently had to use it with a 2 year old dead drive.

I dont know, there seems to have been a lot of failures reported. I own a number of different makes of ssd and its the only one that failed and was in a laptop that was hardly used. Not a big sample set I know but still, it doesnt inspire confidence.

Sandisk Ultra were prone to failing, I'm not sure about the Ultra Plus but they use a better controller and my dead Ultras were replaced with these so hope they are better.

You'd be better off using this as a cache drive.

The OEM version at Currys website quotes both "Manufacturer’s guarantee 1 year" and "Three-year warranty", whereas the non-OEM at Currys website quotes "Manufacturer’s guarantee 3 years" and "Three-year warranty".
I suspect the OEM page has been plagurised and not updated to repeat one-year warranty.
For comparisons:

Currys non-OEM page: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/components-upgrades/internal-hard-drives/solid-state-drives/sandisk-ultra-plus-2-5-internal-ssd-64-gb-22070519-pdt.html

I've had a Sandisk Ultra last me less than an hour. Bought from PCWorld, installed Windows, well tried to, then tried again and then once more in which time the drive failed and wasn't recognised by the computer. Took it back and got a refund, replaced with a Kingston which still works.

FYI, if you fill this up to 95%+, writes will be painfully slow (less than 5MB/s).

So don't buy this if you've got 60GB of data.
#25
don't need it but at that price can find a use for it!! damn you hot deals, third time in a couple of weeks :)
#26
it seems it may have 3 year manufacture warranty....

I use HD Sentinal to check how long a drive has been run.... it help especially for the jokers with the SKYBOX HDD's 'only run for a few hours' (_;)

As asked in the other thread: has anybody managed to register this OEM product as a retail product with Sandisk to obtain the additional two years warranty? Thanks.
